Norman C. Hammer, age 99, beloved husband, Dad, grandpa and great-grandpa passed away on Friday, November 21, 2025 at Suite Living Senior Living in Anoka, Minnesota, surrounded by his loving family.

Norm was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 1926 to Raymond and Mabel Hammer. His mother died when he was about 9 years old. Ray and Norm did some traveling around the country when he was young. Norm was in the Army at the end of World War II as part of the Greatest Generation, the generation that built America. He spent his time in the service in the Philippines and as part of the occupying army in Japan.

In 1950, Norm married Lois Herynski. Together they had four children and made their home in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota. He worked at the Soo Line Railroad, Onan Corporation and Northern States Power. He worked for many years as an appliance repairman for Harasyn Appliance. Norm never made a lot of money, but the family was never wanting as he provided for us as best as he could. We never went hungry or lacked birthday or Christmas presents. We would usually spend one week a year at a resort in northern Minnesota. We have fond memories of those resort trips. Lois passed away in 1985 in the 35th year of their marriage.

Norm met Evelyn (Evie) Wavinak and they spent nearly 35 years together. Norm and Evie were nomads as they were full-time RVers traveling all around the country, spending the winters in warm weather and summers in Minnesota. They never let any grass grow under their feet. Along the way, they met many people and had a lot of adventures. It was difficult for them to stop traveling in 2012. They moved into Assisted Living in February, 2022. Evie passed away in August, 2024.

Norm is survived by his children Raymond (Lisa) Hammer, Charlotte (Bob) Wenger, Thomas (Jeanne) Hammer and Robert (Lorna) Hammer, 9 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Also survived by Evie's son, Robert (Vicki) Wavinak and daughter, Sue (Jeff) Casey along with their children and grandchildren who were also a big part of his life.

Memorial Service: Saturday, December 6, 2025, at Hillside Funeral Chapel and Cemetery, 2610 19th Avenue NE, Minneapolis MN, at 11:00 a.m. Visitation 1 hour prior. Interment immediately at Hillside Cemetery after service; lunch to follow.

Memorials can be made to any Veteran organization of your choice.
