Howe - Norman F. Heign, age 83, of Brighton, Indiana, passed away Monday, January 5, 2026, at Parkview LaGrange Hospital.

He was born September 18, 1942, in Brighton, Indiana, to Robert W. and Lucille (Garlets) Heign. Norm was a lifelong resident of the Brighton area and a 1960 graduate of Brighton High School.

Norm dedicated his life to hard work and service. He spent 10 years at Western Auto in Sturgis, Michigan followed by 20+ years with the LaGrange Publishing Company as an advertising and forms printing salesman. He concluded his career with 10 years as a Transport Officer for the LaGrange County Sheriff's Department. Norm also spent 10 years serving as a Sheriff's Department Reserve Officer, reflecting his strong sense of duty to community.

On September 22, 1962, Norm married Linda S. Anspaugh in Angola, Indiana. Together, they shared 63 years of marriage, building a life rooted in love, family, and commitment.

Norm was a devoted outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing-especially tying his own flies-spending time at the shooting range, and reloading ammunition. An avid nature lover, Norm loved his flower gardens, mowing his lawn and feeding and watching the birds. Norm was also a dog lover and never went long without a faithful companion at his side.

He was a member of Meridian Sun Eagle Lodge F&AM #49 of Sturgis, Michigan, the Scottish Rite of Fort Wayne, and the Mizpah Shriners Hospital of Fort Wayne, making over 70 trips to Chicago Shriners Hospital transporting children for care. He was also a member of the Kiwanis Club and Pine Knob Conservation Club.

Surviving is his wife, Linda S. Heign of Brighton; daughters Joan (Robert) Ogletree of LaGrange, IN, Amy (Tony) Samuels, of Kendallville, IN, and Susan (Jim) Young of Wolcottville, IN; son Matthew W. Heign of Ft. Wayne, IN; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; sister Sandra (John) Stouffer of South Bend, IN; and sister-in-law Mary Lou Heign of Middlebury, IN.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Barbara Fanning; and brother Franklin "Ike" Heign.

Visitation will be Sunday, January 11, 2026, from 2–5 p.m. at Frurip-May Funeral Home, LaGrange, Indiana, with a 5 p.m. Masonic service.

Funeral services will be Monday, January 12, 2026, at 10 a.m., with Pastor Rustin Krapfl officiating. Burial will follow at Brighton Cemetery, Brighton, Indiana.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
