SLINGERLANDS - Norman J. Morand, age 90, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at home with his children by his side.
Born, raised, and educated in Troy, he was the son of the late Hector and Eva Rochon Morand. During a long and progressive career, Norm worked at the Watervliet Arsenal and the General Electric Company for 34 years. He retired as purchasing manager for large steam and gas turbines at General Electric's Turbine Division after purchasing for nuclear submarines. Norm was a graduate of Russell Sage and Union Colleges. He was a U.S. Army Korean War veteran and a communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Church. He loved his children, being a grandfather, and spending time with friends. Norm enjoyed fishing, golfing, and traveling in his retirement years.
He was the husband of the late Mary-Dorothy Morand who passed away in 1983; loving father of Richard Morand (Judy) of Anderson, S.C., Mary-Dorothy Line (Bill) of Marina del Rey, Calif., and Norman Morand II of Denver, Colo.; and brother of the late Maurice Morand, Jeanine Morand and Lorraine Graham. Norm is also survived by his four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 1, in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 35 Adams Pl., Delmar. The family will receive visitors at the church from 9:30 to 10 a.m. before the Mass. Interment will be in Memory Gardens in Colonie.
