Norman Otto passed away on November 2, 2025, at his home surrounded by family. He was born in Sandwich, Illinois, on June 29, 1940, to August and Dorothy Otto. Norman spent his elementary years at Sandy Bluff School and graduated from Sandwich High School in 1958. In 1969, he married Nancy Jo Neuhauser.
Norman served his country in the Army Reserves for six years. He was a long term board member of Northville, Sandwich, Little Rock Township Drainage District #1. After graduating high school, Norman worked with his dad and brother, Allen, in Otto Machine Co. The brothers began farming in 1963. Norman will be remembered for his strong work ethic and attention to detail.
The Otto Family began a miniature train ride that Norman's father built at
The Sandwich Fair in 1953. At an early age, Norman began working with the train ride and became one of the engineers. The train has run for 73 years and continues to be a favorite tradition for young and old.
Special hobbies Norman enjoyed were growing flowers, especially roses and orchids, and photography. He also had a keen interest in the latest technology.
Norman is survived by his wife, Nancy; brother, Allen Otto (Bette); sister Carol Swenson (Glenn); several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and Gracie Jo his Miniature Schnauzer. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A private graveside service was held on Thursday, November 6, 2025. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Sandwich Fair.
