Norman W Reifsnyder

Norman W. Reifsnyder, 103, of Bernville, passed away Monday, February 24, 2025 at home surrounded by family. Norman was born in North Heidelberg Twp, Aug. 25, 1921, the eldest son of the late William M. and Blanche A. (Reber) Reifsnyder. He married Nancy Klopp Griesemer in 1949 and they celebrated 63 years of marriage in May of 2012 before she passed away.
Norman has three children, Rebecca R., wife of retired Admiral William R. Schmidt, Hendersonville, NC, Deborah G. Reifsnyder, Falmouth, ME, and Peter G. Reifsnyder, husband of Darlene (Bashore) Wernersville; nine grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Vernon Reifsnyder; and two sisters, Kathryn Stricker, and Sara Schell.
Norman was a 1939 graduate of Penn Bernville High School.
He was a US Army Veteran, having served in WWII in the 80th Division as a Staff Sargent in radio communications. He served in France, Luxembourg, Battle of the Bulge, and Rhineland, Germany. He was awarded the Bronze Star, and Soldiers Medal.
Norman and his family were dairy farmers for 21 years and in 1962 were selected as Reading Fair Outstanding Farm Family. He was also employed in landscaping at Farr Nursery, and with his son, Peter, for many years. Norman loved gardening and was active in the Penn State Berks County Master Gardener Program for many years.
He was an avid bird watcher and he and his wife, Nancy, were participants in the Bernville Christmas Bird Count for over 30 years. They were also active in the Cornell Backyard Feeder Watch Program.
He was a lifelong member of North Heidelberg Church, he has served on the church consistory as elder, and deacon, many times. He also served as treasurer for 41 years.
Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, Mar. 1st, at North Heidelberg Church, 184 Sheidy Road, Robesonia. A viewing will be held from 9:30-10:30 AM, Saturday, at the church. Burial will be in North Heidelberg Church Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.lammandwitman.com
