Norman Saale Obituary

Norman Saale

Norman D. Saale's life journey ended on Thursday, January 15, 2026. Norman was born in Nebraska City, Neb. on December 2, 1947, the son of Norman "Pat" and Anna (Damme) Saale. His twin sister lived one day. Other children in the family include Merlin who is deceased and Bobby and his twin sister Betty who are both deceased. Norman grew up on a farm west of Talmage and attended Oak Hill Rural School and the Talmage School where he graduated in 1965.

Norman graduated from a professional accounting school in 1967. He married Phyllis Johnson in 1968 and shortly after served two years of active duty in the U.S. Navy, stationed at ComServPac (Pearl Harbor). He then returned to Nebraska and worked for 20 years at a regional/national law firm followed by 27 years with a CPA firm in Grand Island, Neb.

He and Phyllis enjoyed the Hawaiian Islands and made several trips to Kauai. He also enjoyed the quiet beauty and serenity of their "secret garden." Norman enjoyed all types of food and used that as an entertainment vehicle for family and friends.

Norman was a member of First Plymouth UCC, Past President / Chairman of the National Association of Accounting Administrators, served on several boards for Sertoma and held positions with various church boards.

Norm liked to hunt, fish, golf and garden but his biggest joy was his family and the many friends he made over the years. Everyone who knew him enjoyed his loud, infectious laugh, personable nature and sense of humor. He was a loving husband, father and friend.

Left to mourn are his wife, Phyllis; son, Sean (wife, Lori); daughter, Malia; granddaughter Liz (husband, Trevor) Weiss and grandson, Zach; and great-granddaughter, Tatum Weiss; brother-in-law, Sterling Teten; sisters-in-law, Diane Saale and Lorraine Saale; special niece, Kimberly Gripenstroh; many other nieces, nephews, cousins, many friends, neighbors and work associates.

There will be a Celebration of Life service held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 at Butherus Maser and Love funeral home, 4040 A St, Lincoln. Per his wishes, Norman was cremated.

Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation.

Phyllis, I am so sorry for your loss! Prayers are with you. Think of you often and wonder what you are up to?. Have fond memories of when you lived in Grand Island and your special way of skipping in our Y shallow water class.

We were fortunate to have known Norm for a somewhat brief time playing cards in Lincoln with he and Phyllis and two other couples in the `80s. Great memories of a good man. Our heartfelt condolences to Phyllis and family.
