Norman David Stewart

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Norman David Stewart, 85, of East New Market, formerly of Woolford, who departed this life peacefully on July 17, 2025, at Coastal Hospice @ the Lake in Salisbury, Maryland.

Born on February 10, 1940, in Easton, Maryland, Dave was the son of the late Norman (Jerry) Eldridge Stewart and Frances Fisher Stewart his devoted mother. At the age of six, his family made Cambridge their home, where he attended local schools and proudly graduated from Cambridge High School with the Class of 1958.

Shortly after graduation, Dave enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. It was during this time that he met his beloved wife, Carolyn, and they were united in marriage in 1961. Their love story flourished as they shared a year together in England while Dave served in the military. Honorably discharged in 1962, he returned to the Cambridge area, beginning a career at the Daily Banner.

In pursuit of his passion for helping others, Dave transitioned into the plumbing trade, studying under his step-father, Mack Combs. His dedication led him to become a licensed Master Plumber, working with M. Nelson Barnes in commercial plumbing.

In 1977, Dave felt a divine calling to serve in a greater capacity and enrolled in Bible College, embarking on a journey as a Pastor. He first served as the Pastor of Faith Community Church on Mill Street and later took on the role of Summer Camp Director at White Oak Bible Camp while being actively involved at Golden Shore Christian School, where his children thrived.

His ministry led him to serve for nine years as Pastor at Grace Baptist Church in Hurlock, where he touched countless lives. Even after his pastoral tenure, Dave continued to share his gift of preaching throughout the county while maintaining his plumbing practice.

Dave's warm spirit, kindness, and genuine love for people endeared him to many. He cherished the friendships forged through his various roles, and he found joy in preaching at camp in Greensboro and offering comfort during difficult times at friends' funerals.

He leaves behind his devoted wife of 64 years, Carolyn; daughters Lisa Lewis and Kris Ann Hoffman (Rick); and grandchildren Aaron Lewis, Amy Lewis, and Marissa Mills. His legacy is one of love, faith, and service.

Preceding him in death were his parents, step-father, sister Brenda Stewart, who passed away at just 21 years old, and daughter Amy Lynn Stewart, who was called to heaven as an infant.

A funeral service honoring Dave's life will take place on Thursday, July 24, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Open Bible Church, 1619 Race Street, Cambridge, followed by burial at Dorchester Memorial Park, where he will receive Military Honors. The family will welcome friends from 11:00 a.m. until the service begins. Close friend Russ Yates will officiate the service.

Serving as pallbearers will be Rick Hoffman, Johnny McGlaughlin, Fred Altman, Jay Newcomb, Dave Brown and Mike “Bear” Tyler.

Dave’s legacy of compassion and faith will continue in the hearts of those he touched. Memorial donations can be made in his name to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675. May he rest in peace, knowing that his life made a difference in so many.
