Norman Hugh Wilson of Barnstable (formerly of Burlington and Lexington) passed away on May 18, 2025 at the age of 85. Survived by his wife Marjorie (McSweeney) Wilson. He also leaves behind his sons Steven of Lexington, John and his partner Jolie Dart of Lexington (granddaughters Johannah and Hayden), and Craig of Lexington. Stepchildren Lauren Anzivino and her husband Scott of Franklin, Barry McSweeney and his late wife Mimi, Renee Sorenson and her husband Richard of Burlington, Todd Arsenault and his wife Rebeccah of Billerica. Additionally, he leaves behind his ex-wife Judi Wilson, and an extensive group of family and friends in the United States and Ireland. He is remembered fondly by many nieces and nephews, step grandchildren, and a step great granddaughter. He is predeceased by parents James and Jennie Wilson of Donegal, siblings Matthew, Stuart, Minnie, and Elsie and ex-wife Janice (Porter) Wilson.
Born on October 24, 1939, in Donegal Co. Ireland, Norm immigrated to the United States in 1959 and embarked on his own version of the American dream. After briefly serving in the Air Force, Norm became a successful local building contractor. In the 1970s he founded Lexington Builders and proceeded to lead it for the next four decades, much of that time with his business partner David Ricard. From the 1980s on he was an active Rotarian who was a member and leader of clubs in Burlington and Hyannis. In the 1990s Norman was Rotary Internationals District 7930 Governor. His last role as a Rotarian was as the founder and member of the Barnstable Sunrise Club.
In retirement, he was active in the Barnstable community delivering Meals on Wheels and serving as the President of B.A.R.S (Barnstable Association for Recreational Shellfishing). Wherever he lived, Norm served those around him, often using his building skills on community projects. He volunteered with Special Olympics and donated many pints of blood to the Red Cross.
In his free time, he loved dancing, reading, sports, his time at Waterville Valley, and spending time with family and friends both in America and Ireland where he frequently returned to visit. Norman Hugh Wilson is remembered by a legion of admirers for his drive, sharp humor, energy, and sense of adventure. He died having lived a full life and having traveled much of the world.
He passed away quietly from Alzheimers complications. At the deceased request there will be no wake or funeral service. A Celebration of his Life will be held at the Caf Escadrille, 26 Cambridge, St, Burlington, MA on Thursday June 5, from 5pm to 8pm. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.
