Obituary published on Legacy.com by Branford Dawson Funeral Home Inc. - Temple on Dec. 3, 2025.
Obie George Freeman was born on September 8, 1938, to the late Jupiter and Nevada Freeman in
Troy, Texas. He united in marriage with Ruby Lee Anderson on January 29, 1962, and to this union, four children were born.
In 1966, Obie joined The General Assembly Church of the Living God, where he faithfully served for many decades. For over 50 years, he held the position of Chairman Deacon, offering wise counsel and steadfast leadership until his health began to decline. His dedication to his church was evident not only in his service but also in his hands-he was one of the builders who helped construct the very church building that still stands today.
Alongside his brothers, Obie co-owned and operated F & F Construction, a successful company renowned throughout Texas for its high-quality work, including curbs, gutters, retaining walls, slabs, and more. His strong work ethic and craftsmanship left a lasting mark across the state.
Obie had a deep love for Gospel quartet music. His passion led him to form the singing group The Gospel Holy Tones, who traveled throughout Central Texas sharing the good news through song. The group opened for world-renowned artists such as The Williams Brothers, The Canton Spirituals, and many others, spreading joy and inspiration wherever they performed. His love for music also inspired him to record two CDs, for which he wrote and rearranged several songs. The last cd was named "Gloryland".
Obie George Freeman will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, church leader, businessman, and musician whose faith and service touched countless lives. His legacy of love, hard work, and devotion will live on through his family, church, and community.
