Extremely saddened to hear the news of Prof. Kyn's passing. He was my thesis adviser and was very encouraging and supportive throughout. I learnt a great deal from his challenging courses including use of computing to arrive at solutions which I used in my thesis. Lida (Ludmilla -his wife) helped me a lot in the BU computer center. This brings back very fond memories of both of them from the early 1980s. My deepest condolences to Lida and the family.

Olda set the standard of high expectations in econometrics for the BU economics department for thirty years, and was much beloved by his colleagues and innumerable PhD students who relied on him for advice and programming efforts, along with his wife, Lida, to help them finish their dissertation. Even after Oldrich retired about 25 years ago, he maintained a remarkable web site and network of BU economics alumni who he had worked with that documented the international impact of his work and the department. My best wishes for Lida and his children, who I am sure will miss him dearly.

Oldrich Kyn ("Olda") was a passionate teacher, a productive partner in research, and a joyful friend. He never hesitated to share his resources of time and knowledge with generations of students. He will be remembered as the truly outstanding personality he was. May he rest in peace. Our thoughts are with his wife Ludmila ("Lida") and his three sons.
