Published by Sneider & Sullivan & O’Connell’s Funeral Home and Cremation Service on Feb. 25, 2020.
Olivia Galaviz Hurtado was born on May 25,1953 in God's Country, Woodlake, CA. Her childhood can be best described as humble and full of adventure, working with her family to feed and raise all the animals on their ranch. She often told the story when the family pig gave birth and her Dad thought one of the piglets was missing just to find it sleeping right next to her in her room. Olivia attended Woodlake High School and played the clarinet in the band. She was 18 when she moved to Los Angeles, CA for new adventures. She went to beauty school and learned to speak spanish, while running a jewelry store. After having her first born child Erika, she moved back to Woodlake, CA. where she would eventually meet her husband. After 10 years together on May 15,1993 she married David Hurtado, having her second daughter Danielle. In 1998 Olivia and her daughters moved to the Bay Area. She worked for the San Mateo School District as one of the districts family liaisons. She went on to work as an Office Manager for Stepping Stones Center for Autistic Spectrum Disorders. Then in 2016 she began working for the San Mateo Medical Center working in the Emergency Department and Pharmacy. Olivia loved helping others and was well versed in the multicultural families in San Mateo County. Olivia's pride and joy were her 5 grandchildren. She was present for all their births, enjoyed watching them play sports, dance and making tamales with them at Christmas time. Olivia was an active member of St. Timothy's Catholic Church. She was involved in many church groups such as the Hispanic Ministry, Grief Ministry, Liturgy Ministry just to name a few. She was a Catechism Teacher, teaching first communion and confirmation. She looked forward to St. Timothy's annual Luau, Crab Feed, and Christmas Bazaar. You could always count on her to be early at 10:30 Sunday Mass ready to serve as a lector or eucharistic minister. Olivia loved traveling the world. She never hesitated to get in her car and drive or get on a plane and fly. She traveled Europe in her younger years. Most recently her travel buddy was her niece/best friend Tina Acosta, laying out on the different beaches in Mexico and Hawaii and visiting Guatemala and Peru. Olivia Galaviz Hurtado is preceded in death by parents Chencho and Eleanor Galaviz, brothers Arturo Galaviz and Gilbert Galaviz. Olivia Galaviz Hurtado is survived by daughters: Erika Andino and Danielle Hurtado. Grandchildren: Christopher Galaviz, Makayla Andino, Isabella Andino, Matthew Andino and Nasir Algeré.
