Olusegun Soyemi

Olusegun Olubunmi Soyemi, 36 years old, residing in South Bend, Indiana, passed away on Friday, December 19th, 2025, at the Center for Hospice-Ernestine Raclin House.

"Segun" was born in Lagos, Nigeria, to Oladipo and Olabisi Soyemi, on June 19th, 1989. He was an active member of the choir at the Holy Trinity Church, Ebute-Ero, Lagos, Nigeria, which was the family church that was attended by two generations of the Soyemi family before Segun. In his early years, he attended the church school (Ebute-Ero Primary School) and the Church Missionary School (CMS) Grammar School (High School). He completed the Diploma Program at the Muson School of Music in Lagos, before going on to the Nelson Mandela University in South Africa to pursue a Bachelors degree in Music (2016-2020).

Segun returned to Nigeria in 2020, where he taught music before moving to the United States to pursue a Postgraduate Diploma Program (2021 -2023) and a Master Program (2023-2024) in Music at the Longy School of Music of Bard College in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He joined the Master of Sacred Music Program at Notre Dame University in South Bend, Indiana, in August of 2024. .

Segun was a talented counter tenor and a graduate student at Notre Dame University at the time of his passing. He also contributed generously to the support of classically trained musicians to engage in Sacred Music in Nigeria and the United States.

Segun leaves behind an older brother (Babalola Soyemi), uncles, aunts, cousins, and a host of friends and family members.

A visitation for Segun will be held on Monday, December 29th, 2025, from 8am-10am at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St. South Bend. This will be followed by a funeral service at the same location, which will begin at 10am, with burial to follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery on the Campus of Notre Dame University.
