Onegi Obel was born on 4th May 1932 at Pacego Pumvuga Village Panyango Sub county of Jonam in the southern part of what was then West Nile district, which is Nebbi district today.
He enrolled for formal primary education in the early 1940's at Ngetta catholic Primary School in Lira. Subsequently he moved to Nyapea in Nebbi to finish his primary education before enrolling for the junior secondary school at St. Aloysius College Nyapea Nebbi in 1948. He joined Namilyango college for his senior secondary education and he successfully completed in 1953. On completion, he secured a job with the Uganda civil services and worked as a clerical officer of accounts in Lira and Arua. He did a Cambridge school certificate through correspondence and subsequently joined Assumption University in Canada attaining his first degree before joining the University of Toronto to pursue a masters degree in Economics. He returned to Uganda in 1965 and served in the Ministry of finance as a commissioner for taxation. In 1968, he was moved from the Ministry of finance to Bank of Uganda as deputy Governor. He worked in the bank with diligence until 1978 when the then President Idi Amin relieved him of his duties.
Onegi Obel is survived by wife Agnes Atoh, many children and many grand children.

May God rest your soul in eternal peace. Your memory is fresh. I have always known you as a man of peace and integrity and fought tooth and nail for the Good of the People of Uganda and one of the heighest Person in West Nile in the hierachy of the Government in Uganda.
