It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Onetta Elizabeth McWilliams Daniel, at the age of 89, on September 20, 2025. She was born on August 3, 1936 the daughter of the late Jasper Evans and Nona Mae Brewer McWilliams, Onetta's life was a tapestry of love, dedication, and creativity.
Onetta found her soulmate in Alfred Daniel, marrying him on December 24, 1955. Their bond remained strong until Alfred's passing on November 24, 2006, leaving a legacy of love that continues to inspire those who knew them. During her years, Onetta dedicated herself to her work as a seamstress in Florence, AL, where her talent was evident in every stitch.
A devoted member of the Bethel Grove Community Church, Onetta's spiritual foundation was a guiding light throughout her life. She cherished her community and was always ready to lend a helping hand. In her spare moments, Onetta thrived in her passions-gardening, canning, sewing, and quilting. Her kitchen was a warm haven, where she delighted in cooking and sharing her creations, including her famous sweet potato pie recipe, which brought joy to family gatherings.
Above all, Onetta took great pride in her family; she was a doting grandmother and great-grandmother, often beaming with joy while sharing stories about them. Her legacy lives on through the countless cherished memories she created with her loved ones. Onetta will forever be remembered for her gentle spirit, her unwavering love, and the countless ways she touched the lives of those around her.
Onetta is survived by her son David Daniel and wife Joanna of Louisville, KY; grandchildren, Lori Cleveland and husband Jon, and Kinsey Ray and husband Patrick; and great grandchildren, Haley Holt, Luke Holt, Jaden Cleveland, Kaylee Cleveland, William Ray, and Avery Ray.
In addition to her husband and parents, Onetta was preceded in death by her daughter, Marilyn Dooley; son-in-law, William "Bill" Dooley; brothers, Hardison McWilliams, Edward McWilliams, Burnett McWilliams, and Paul McWilliams; and sisters, Nadine West, Bonetta Housley, and Bernice Staggs.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2025 at 12:00 pm at Memorial Gardens of Wayne County in Collinwood, TN with Gerald Montgomery officiating with burial to follow.
Pallbearers will be David Daniel, Patrick Ray, Jon Cleveland, Luke Holt, Greg Stults, and Ronald Henson.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Robert Daniel and Jay West.
