Opal Eileen Hiserote Ashmead Wade June 4, 1923 - November 9, 2025.
Opal Wade, 102, passed away Sunday, November 9, 2025, at the Life Care Center in Cheyenne.
Opal was born June 4, 1923, on a farm near Winner, South Dakota to Ben and Mabel (Carlon) Hiserote. She moved to Douglas, Wyoming with her family in 1939 and graduated from Douglas High School in 1940. After graduation she worked for the Moore family on the Ogallala ranch. Later, she worked as a Librarian, and as a clerk at the Ben Franklin store and then Frontier Drug.
She married Harry LeRoy Ashmead II in 1942, and two children were born to this union, Diana Elaine and Harry LeRoy Ashmead III. After a short stay in California, she returned to Douglas where she was employed by the North Central Gas Company. Upon the death of her husband, she married William “Bill” Wade in 1967 and moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming. There she spent many years working at Roedel North Drug Store where she made numerous friends in Cheyenne.
In Cheyenne, she braved the tornado of 1979 where she lost the roof and north wall of her home. Then watched as flood water filled her basement and several inches consumed her home when the flood of 1985 hit Cheyenne. Still Opal persevered. She was instrumental in establishing the tornado warning sirens in Cheyenne. Opal was kind and selfless volunteering at the Veterans Hospital in Cheyenne for over 23 years. She regularly attended family reunions in Winner, South Dakota where most of her eleven siblings resided.
Opal was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, her daughter, Diana Haddad of Fresno, California and all her siblings. She is survived by her son, Harry Ashmead of Kansas City, Missouri, grandson Clint Ashmead (Terri) and family of Elk Ridge, Utah, granddaughter Tami Boyer (Bryan) and family of Douglas, Wyoming, grandsons Brooke Haddad, Chris Haddad (Elenore) and family, and Adam Kausin of California.
