Ora Ann Knopp was born
Sept. 14, 1936 to Ewald and Esther (Prochnow) Behrends, the first born of two daughters. She
and sister Flora grew up in Luckenbach, Texas.
She married Clayton C. Knopp, her high school sweetheart in
1955.
And the family first resided in town on Morse Street.
They had four beautiful daughters.
The eldest, Delight Ann, born Oct. 7 1955 and identical triplets
Bonnie Fay, Connie Kay and Donnie Day, Jan 23, 1957.
The family settled when Clayton returned from active duty in Korea. The family moved to
Luckenbach, to farm and ranch, and began his life's work as a stone mason and cattleman,
where Ora was born and raised.
Ora Ann loved spending time with her family at the family home, where she kept a large garden
and peach orchard.
She also helped with her husband's cattle operation, and during high school, her Hereford won
grand champion steer in 1950 at the San Antonio Livestock Show. She helped plan for planting and
baling fields, that she'd cleared by hand as a child, where they grew, mostly hay, but also oats,
corn, potato and milo maize.
Oma always had her chickens, beloved pets and whatever orphaned livestock or wildlife she
was tending. She loved reading and we treasure her cookbooks.
She made the homemade sausage, peach preserves and koch kaese we enjoyed possible.
A bustling house and a full table existed because of her.
In the early 90's they began spending time in Kimble County, where they bought a ranch on the
Llano River, for the hunting and fishing.
But she and Opa enjoyed dancing and live music, and they had the best of it for many years,
dances at halls near and far on weekends. Pinochle and straight dominos were a regular
pastime with friends.
She was an active member of Holy Ghost Lutheran and served as President of the Gillespie
Historical Schoolhouse Preservation Society. She also assisted with the local Needs Council.
We are grateful to the Golden Hub for the camaraderie and fellowship it provided.
Oma was awesome, so fun and smart, both gracious and practical. She was very reassuring
and perceptive.
Many times she could connect to say just what was needful in a difficult moment. She had a gift
for that, among her many.
We will miss her every day.
Ora is survived by her sister, Mrs. Flora Wallendorf, also of Luckenbach, and two nieces,
Mrs. Wendy Young, and Mrs. Gayle Leonard. She is also survived by one sister-in-law, Mrs.
Hazel Merkel.
She is preceded in death by sisters-in-law, Mrs. Esther McHalek and Mrs. Ella Mae Durst.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Clayton C. Knopp and two daughters, Mrs. Delight Ann Schutte and Ms. Bonnie Fay Coffee.
She is survived by daughters, Donnie Day Coleman and Connie Kay Stahl and three
grandchildren, Heath Sasko, Kimberly Fay Coffee and Crystal Kay Stahl.
Great-grandchildren Brant and Brady Sasko and Warren, Vivian and Taylor Ann Russel.
As per her request, she will be cremated with a graveside service and interment in the Greenwood Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be given in her memory to the Luckenbach School, Holy Ghost Lutheran Church or to the
charity of your choice.
