Oris Darrell Gibson

Oris Darrell Gibson, 88, left us on Monday, September 22 and is now in the arms of Jesus. Darrell spent his last few days with many family members by his side at the Hospice of South Texas center. His daughters, Darla and Rhonda were telling him how much they loved him when he took his last breath and headed to heaven for a reunion with family and friends who were already there.
Darrell was born in Haskell, Texas on August 10th, 1937 to the late Ernest Oris Gibson and Julia Marion Gibson. He married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Janet Rasco on May 21, 1957 and they were married for 62 years before Shirley left us and made her journey to heaven on June 25, 2019.
Darrell was raised in a farming family in the Haskell area. He spent many long and hard days out in the cotton fields helping his parents while he was growing up. He has two younger brothers, Bobby Gibson (Jane) and Charles Gibson ( Pam ). His younger sister, Janette Frierson and her husband David, are celebrating with Darrell in heaven today.
Darrell and Shirley have two daughters, Darla Stafford ( Bill ) and Rhonda Tordt ( Mike ).
Grandchildren: Robin Phillips ( Jeremy ), Wade Stafford ( Julia ), Brandon Stafford ( Heather ), Jordan Stafford ( Amanda ), Tyler Tordt ( Lindsey ).
Great Grandchildren: Kylee Tordt. Tristyn Lindsey. Josie and August Stafford. Aiden, Landry and Graham Stafford. Jace Stafford. Violet and Indigo Tordt.

Darrell graduated from Haskell High School in 1955 and was a standout football player. He was offered an athletic scholarship at Texas Tech University, but decided to go to work for El Paso gas Company in New Mexico. Three years later, Darrell and Shirley moved back to Haskell to help his parents in the farming business. They eventually moved to Dumas, Texas and then to Odessa, Texas where he started working with the Kem-Kill weed control company. Darrell and Shirley moved to Victoria in 1969 and he started a new branch of the company there. He was well known throughout the crossroads area because of all the pipeline right of ways and chemical plants that he took care of. Darrell managed the Victoria branch of Kem-Kill for over 50 years.
Darrell was a long time member of First Baptist Church in Victoria and served as a Deacon. He was involved in many Church activities and loved to help others that were in need. He leaves behind many Church friends who loved him. Darrell was always willing to help and he will be deeply missed by his family and friends. We all know that he is hugging Shirley, his sister and his parents today. Several close friends from Church are also there with him today and there is a big celebration taking place in front of our Lord and Savior, Jesus. It is hard to put into words how much Darrel meant to all of his family and friends and we thank Jesus for putting him into our lives.

For since we believe that Jesus died and was raised to life again, we also believe that when Jesus returns, God will bring back with him the believers who have died. 1 Thessalonians 4: 13-14
