Orlando Rystad

Orlando Dale Rystad, 78, passed away on January 28, 2026 at the Benedictine Living Center.

Orlando was born on July 20, 1947 in Oklee, Minnesota to Olaf Rystad and Hazel (Christianson) Rystad. Orlando attended Oklee High School where he graduated with the Class of 1965. After high school, Orlando served in the United States Navy until 1968. After serving his country, Orlando began a career in auto body repair where he was able to pursue his true passion of mud racing and car racing.

Orlando was a fun, kindhearted, caring brother to his sisters. He loved racing cars and mud racing. He was good at racing, as is evidenced by his numerous racing trophies. His favorite car to race was called Bad News. Orlando also enjoyed watching car racing, listening to his favorite music, and traveling. He loved his family and his friends.

Orlando is survived by his daughter, Penny Holcomb; step-sons, Ricky and Ronnie Eyester; sisters, Myonne Sanders, Elaine Boardman; niece, Nancy Thompson; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and long-time friends, Wanda Fore and Roseanne Eyester.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Olaf Rystad and Hazel Christianson Rystad; brother, Ordean Rystad, and sister, Wanda Mae Rystad.

Interment will take place at a later date at Salem Lutheran Cemetery in Red Lake County, Minnesota.
