Orville Howard Davidsmeyer III (better known as Dave) age 73 of San Antonio, TX, went to be with the Lord on April 24, 2023.
Better known as Dave, born in Dexter, Iowa he attended Hope College before joining the U.S Army to be a Helicopter Pilot. After Flight school, where he finished 1st in his class of 193 pilots, he served in Vietnam. While there, his acts of heroism and meritorious achievements were recognized both by the U.S. and South Vietnamese government with awards such as the Bronze Star Medal and Air Medal.
Once back in the states, he met his loving wife, Romie. They started a family with their four children.
After leaving the military, he began his second career with the government with the U.S. Postal Service. Never shying away from a challenge, Dave was instrumental in the opening and expansion of two new post office locations.
Always out of the house at 4am, his unmatched work ethic that made him such an honorable soldier led him to management positions with the Postal Service.
Upon retirement, he continued his lifelong hobbies of collecting stamps, sports cards and most importantly spending time with those who meant the most to him, his loving family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, O. Howard and Dorothy Jean Davidsmeyer and his sister, Dona Davidsmeyer Beale.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Romie, children Daniel, Robert and wife Cynthia, John, and Michele Davidsmeyer. He has eight grandchildren: Christopher Davidsmeyer, Andrew Davidsmeyer, Cody (Alainey) Flores, Alexander Herrera, Arthur Herrera, Amanda Herrera, Zachary Davidsmeyer, Garrett Davidsmeyer; and two great grandchildren: Rhen and Micah.
He is also survived by his sister, Jo Ann Davidsmeyer, of Sarasota, Florida.
His legacy will live on through his family and his love will live on through the hearts of all that knew him.
Viewing will be held at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North on Sunday, May 7, 2023 beginning at 6:00 pm.
A Chapel Service will take place on Monday, May 8, 2023 at 9:30 am.
Interment to follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 11:15 am.
