Oscar "Ozzie" Amberg

Ozzie Amberg sadly passed away August 28, 2025. Son of the late Martin and Rie (Symmons) Amberg, he was born January 26, 1945.

Loved by his wife, Kathy, and his many in-laws; Karen Friedrich, Joy Dytyniak, Aaron Dytyniak and Gigi (Arthur) Leib, he will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and his many nieces and nephews: Nick (Danielle) Friedrich, Danielle Ramos, Ryan (Megan) Friedrich, Erin (Brian) Nawrocki, Elizabeth (Jason) Nesler and Stephanie (Jarrod) Champion. Great nephews and nieces: Devin, Kayla, Ariana, Alivia., Alyssa, Alana, Gabbie, Grace, Genevieve, Charlee, Nellie, Archie and Esme.

Ozzie is predeceased by his parents, his father and mother-in-law, Nick and Genevieve, and his brother-in-law, Claude.

Ozzie was born in Bussum, Netherlands, in 1945. He came to the USA aboard a ship at the age of 2 (wearing his Dutch shoes). He lived in Detroit and then Livonia with his parents. He graduated from Thurston High School in 1964. He was an outstanding swimmer and won numerous championship swim medals which his record was held for many years.

He worked for Langley Research at NASA in the late 1960's on the Lunar 11 Space shuttle and received an Apollo Achievement Award in 1969. He had the opportunity at that time to meet Neil Armstrong. He worked at Ford Motor Company in Dearborn from 1977-2007 as a Design Engineer in the Chassis Department and was able to celebrate his retirement after 30 years.

He met his wife, Kathy, at Ford. They married in 1985 and were recently able to celebrate his 80th birthday as well as their 40th wedding anniversary. Ozzie loved to golf, bowl and work on anything that involved electronics.

He boated on Lake St. Clair for 35 years and enjoyed many boating adventures along the shores of Michigan and Canada with many friends and family. He also had many memories with vacations and cruises with family over the years.

In his final years, Ozzie battled Parkinson's. His endurance and courage throughout his journey was beyond measure. Our "Oz-man" will be greatly missed.

Visitation for Ozzie will be happening Wednesday, September 3, from 3:00 - 8:00PM with a Service beginning at 6:00PM.
