Othell married the love of her life, Bartow Lashley, Jr., at age 16 and spent thirty-eight years building a life filled with wonderful memories. Together they had six children whom she loved dearly. As a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Othell taught her children to love deeply, care for others, and find the good in people.
The highlight of her days included coffee, then breakfast, catching up with the happenings in the world via the news, tuning in to the soap operas, an afternoon nap, then maybe an ice cream cone with caramel syrup. Her “guard cat”, Bootsie, was a constant companion never allowing Othell to venture too far away.
She enjoyed life and laughing especially when she got together with her siblings. Often, they would play bluegrass music and sing together. Following her retirement from Belk in 1987, Othell poured herself into her hobbies: reading, cooking, and sewing. (Everyone was grateful when a pot of chicken & dumplings was simmering on the stove.) She had the gift of wisdom and though she was usually right, she was gracious and humble. Othell was loved by many and her light will continue to shine in their lives.
Survivors include her children, Joan Lashley, Celia Fowler, and Timothy Lashley (Carmen); her grandchildren, Cheryl, Eric & Anna, Christy & Bill, Greg, Olivia, April & Larry, Daniel & Kirsten, and Nelson; her great-grandchildren, Zach, Beri, Harry, Charlie, Emily, Mia, and Wyatt; and her great-great-grandchildren, Braxton and Georgia. In addition to her parents, Othell was preceded in death by her husbands, Bartow Lashley, Jr. and John B. Day; her sons, Danny, Greg, and Paul; her siblings; and several nieces & nephews.
The Day Family extends their sincerest gratitude to Natalie Alday & Dyshan Harvey along with others at Georgia Hospice Care.
