Otis Blair Obituary
Otis Blair, a lifelong resident of Newport News, Virginia, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on September 17, 1936, in Newport News, Otis lived a life marked by hard work, dedication, and a love for his family and community.
Otis began his career as a welder at Newport News Shipbuilding, where he honed his skills and developed a reputation for excellence and precision. His career also took him to GE in Pennsylvania, where he continued to apply his talents and work ethic. A man who found joy in building and home projects, Otis was never happier than when he was working with his hands. He had a passion for reading project books, always eager to learn and improve his craft.
In addition to his professional pursuits, Otis had a deep appreciation for jazz and blues music, often enjoying the soothing melodies with a cigar in hand. He was a simple man, known for his stubbornness and strong opinions, yet he was deeply loved by those who knew him.
Otis proudly served his country as a Marine for two years, an experience that instilled in him a sense of discipline and honor that he carried throughout his life.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Will Blair and Emma Hardy Kittrell; his sisters, Mae Lenard and Mary Alsop; his brothers, Douglas Blair and Eugene Blair; and his beloved granddaughters, Janee Banks and Denajha Blair.
Otis leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory: his children, Patricia Blair Williams, Otis I. Blair, Lisa Blair (Alexander McDonald), and Daniel Blair; his brothers, Rathall Blair (Lois) and Clarence Blair; his grandchildren, MaNeysa Beatty, Tisha Crudup, Damien White, Jordan Blair, Joshua Blair, Asia McDonald, LaShana McDonald, Juainer Armstrong, Jimmie McDonald, and Kailynn Blair; a host of 13 great-grandchildren, Malania Beatty and Ali Brown as well as one great-great grandchild as well as a host of nieces and nephews; and his special friend, Jeanette Robinson. He also leaves behind many friends who will miss his presence and companionship.
A private service will be held at a later time to honor Otis's life and legacy. His family and friends will remember him as a man of integrity, strength, and unwavering love.
