Otis Chaplin passed away on Sunday morning, November 3, 2024 in Mineola, Texas. He fought a long battle with cancer for the last four years. He did so well with his weekly cancer infusions under the care of his wonderful oncologist, Dr. Aurora, that he was able to continue dancing and performing with his country and western band. They performed for Senior Folks homes in the Metroplex. He was the lead singer and a great guitarist.
Otis spent most of his adult life in the furniture repair and refinishing profession, and had his own business. He was a man of great integrity, not only in his business, but in every aspect of his life.
It was only in the last 8-9 months that Otis was no longer able to do the things he loved. He always kept his wonderful attitude, never complaining about anything.
Otis is preceded in death by his wife of many years, Doris Alice Chaplin.
He is survived by his son, Joe Sorrell, and his daughter, Jan Hodges. He is also survived by his grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Clay and Katrina Plunk; and grandson, Tai Chong. He also has six great grandchildren: Justin Tantog, and Tailer, Cyrus, Tairelle, Taitus, and Taisha Chong; and three great great-grandchildren: Hunter and Shane Tantog, and Taire Amana Chong. Survivors also include his sister, Dorothy of Louisiana; two sisters-in-law, Marilyn Ramey and Becky Ramey; as well as many nieces and nephews.
