Otis Ray Stark, 85, of Carrollton, Missouri, passed away March 20, 2025 at Northcare Hospice House in N. Kansas City, Missouri.
He was born May 23, 1939, in Carrollton, Missouri, son of Otis Wilbur and Ruby Pearl (White) Stark. He married Thresa Harden to which two daughters were born. On June 8, 1974, he married Melba Jean Renzelman, who preceded him in death.
Otis was a graduate of Bosworth High School in 1957. He served in the United States Army stationed in Germany and on his return he attended and graduated from Kansas City Barber College. He worked for a number of years at a barber shop under the old First National Bank Building and then started West Side Barber Shop on the Carrollton Square until he retired.
When the pre-school kids, from the daycare, would be on their walk, they would instantly stop at the barber shop door, even if he was cutting hair, he would stop, go out and hand out suckers to all of the kids. He loved kids. When he was younger and as an adult, he played baseball and basketball and as he got older he played slow pitch softball with his old baseball team. He was also a girls softball coach for many years. He was a member of the DeWitt Christian Church, Wakenda Lodge #52 AF and AM, AMVets in Wakenda and worked as an auxiliary law enforcement officer for many years in Carrollton. Otis loved riding motorcycles, vinyl records, listening to old country music, dancing and traveling, especially on bus trips with Caryl.
He is survived by a daughter, Tracey Cunningham and husband Richard, Norborne, Missouri; a step daughter, Kathy Paul, Higginsville, Missouri; a brother, Travis Stark, Arizona; four grandchildren, Heather Cunningham, Brennen (Jamie) Paul, Stephanie Cunningham, Tucker Murry, two great grandchildren, Avery Paul and Eli Paul and a very special companion, Caryl Brown.
He was preceded in death by his wife Jeanie, parents, Ruby Pearl Stark, Otis Wilbur Stark and Stepmother, Goldie Stark and a daughter Quenetta May Stark.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday April 12, 2025 at the Evergreen Cemetery, DeWitt, Missouri.
Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.
