"I had a wonderful life and it was even better than the movie."
Otto Jude Teiken, 88, of Eden Prairie, passed away at Methodist Hospital, St. Louis Park, MN on October 31, 2025. Although the last five weeks of life were a struggle, Otto was grateful for extra time with family.
Otto's greatest pride was his family and their many adventures. He loved to travel and was a lifelong student of history (how many times can a person watch "Patton?"). Sports played a central role, whether watching, coaching, golfing, running, or schooling referees. Cribbage was a family tradition. Otto was a beloved "Bapa," and stand up/sit down comedian to any audience.
The 10th of 13 children born to Herman and Margaret (Jasken) Teiken, Otto grew up on the family farm in Ogema, MN. He graduated from Waubun High School in 1955, a scholar, athlete, and busy farm kid. Following his brothers' footsteps Otto served in the US Army.
As a Chicago resident, Otto took a fateful flight where stewardess Harriet Irons caught his eye and won his heart. It was a great love story.
In his work life Otto was a well respected financial advisor working side by side for decades with his wife and partner in all things life, Harriet. They enjoyed and cared about their clients, often working with generations of the same families.
Otto is survived by his wife Harriet of 65 years; three children, Angie and husband John Heitzman, Paul and his wife Erin, and Craig and his partner Edie Baumgart. 5 grandchildren and 5 greats (#6 on the way): Erin and husband Matt Gillen (Violet and Evelyn), Joe Heitzman, Jason Teiken and spouse Katherine (Margaret), Kate Teiken Rogers (Teddy and Lena), and Noel Teiken. He is survived by siblings Dalorus Hanowski, Ken Teiken, and Judy Necas, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Service on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, Pax Christi Catholic Community, Eden Prairie at 11 am with visitation one hour prior at 10 am. Burial at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Eden Prairie.
In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to Catholic Charities Twin Cities. Arrangements by Washburn McGreavy, Eden Prairie.
