Owen "Skip" B. Wright, affectionately known as Skip by those who knew him well, passed away on June 18, 2024, at the age of 77 in Walkerton, Indiana.
Born on April 2, 1947, in La Porte, Indiana, Skip was a man of integrity, warmth and unwavering dedication to his family and community. Skip was the son of the late Burdette and Doris (Childs) Wright. Skip was a graduate of South Central High School in La Porte County, where his athletic talent earned him the prestigious title of Indiana State Champion for High Jump in 1965, a remarkable and singular achievement for his school.
Skip is survived by his wife Gloria Lambert, whom he married on Valentine's Day in 2009 in Valparaiso, Indiana. He is also survived by his son, Jay Scott (Tina) Wright; and sister, Shelli (James) Wright Johnson of Valparaiso, Indiana.
Skip's professional life was as a respected cattle farmer, a vocation that allowed him to live in harmony with the land and the animals he cared for. His work was not just a means to an end but a passion that he pursued with enthusiasm and pride.
Beyond his own fields, Skip was a beacon of guidance for the youth of his community. As an active mentor in 4-H, he dedicated his time to teaching young people the importance of agriculture and the responsibilities that come with caring for the earth and its creatures.
His influence extended beyond his immediate surroundings, as many past and present 4-H'ers can attest to the positive impact he had on their lives.
Skip's legacy as a mentor is one that will be remembered by those who had the privilege of learning from him.
Owen "Skip" B. Wright, we celebrate a life that was truly well-lived. Skip's journey on this earth was marked by accomplishment, love and an enduring commitment to making the world a better place. He will be profoundly missed by his family, friends and all who were fortunate enough to know him.
The Wright family will hold a private Memorial service for Skip at a later date. Palmer Funeral Home-North Liberty Chapel is assisting the family.

I met Skip through the cattle industry as he was trimming cattle for shows. His passion for his work was remarkable as I watched it was like watching a true artist at work. It was evident that he was not just trimming he was creating his own masterpiece accenting the good parts of the steer and diminishing the faults to the eye. Skip always had a smile on his face and was always happy to see you no matter where it was. I also remember looking at the record board for track at South Central and every year his record was and is still there for high jump. A remarkable man on so many levels.
