Pamela Haisty Obituary

Haisty, Pamela K.

February 9, 1942 - May 19, 2023

Though she did her best to remain on this earth as long as she could, and bless us with her humor and grace, Pamela Knostman Haisty was called home to God on Friday, May 19, 2023. For the last two and a half years Pam valiantly fought triple-negative breast cancer. She did so in a way that those who met her would not have known her experience, and up until the very end she worked hard to exercise, socialize and enjoy her life as a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and friend.

Pam was born by the pink sand shores of Bermuda where her father George "Poppy" Knostman worked as an engineer in WWII and lived with Pam's mom Tressia Dee Carter Knostman. Pam maintained her love of the beach throughout her life, and she and family spent much time in Pine Knoll Shores, N.C. She was raised in Hillsboro, Illinois where she maintained several friendships with her former Hilltopper schoolmates. She was a psychology major at Washington University, St. Louis, where she met the love of her life, Ken Haisty. Post college, she worked in Chicago for the Chicago Tribune and for Cook County as a social worker while supporting Ken through medical school. She relocated with him several times for his medical career, ultimately building a wonderful home and community of friends for more than 45 years in Winston-Salem.

Pam had a deep belief in faith and service which she also instilled in her children. She was president of Medical Center Guild, a docent at MESDA in Old Salem, a volunteer at Crisis Control Ministries, and a faithful member of Centenary Methodist Church.

She loved to travel. She participated in Winston-Salem's inaugural Friendship Force visit with China. She and Ken took many trips throughout the world including cruises to the Caribbean and Europe.

There were many pleasures that brought joy to Pam. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, the newest of which Riggs, at just over a year of age, really captured her heart. She had a love of books, and played bridge in a bridge club for over 40 years, and enjoyed investing, exercising regularly and good friendship. She would often come to bridge club with a bag of books to share, recommending books that each friend would enjoy.

Pam is survived by her husband of fifty-seven years Ken; a daughter, Holly (son-in-law Scott) their sons Carter and Connor; son Chris (daughter-in-law Susan) their son Riggs, and son Geoff (daughter-in-law Christina) and their daughters Allie and Stella; a brother, George (sister-in-law Donna), and niece Maggie (spouse Finn).

Please join us to celebrate Pam's life on Sunday, June 11, 2023 at 3:30 p.m. at Centenary United Methodist Church (use 5th Street Centenary entrance). The family will be receiving guests from 2 until 3 p.m. ahead of the service (use 4 1/2 Street Centenary entrance). We ask that you wear festive and bright colors to the service to honor the colorful palette of life Pam enormously loved.

Donations may be made in Pam's memory to Cancer Services, Inc. of Winston-Salem, NC. You may donate at: https://cancerservicesonline.org/give
