Pamela Renee Viers Newberry, age 64, of
Honaker, Virginia Passed away Monday, February 23, 2026 in Johnston Memorial Hospital with her family at her side. Born November 7, 1961 in
Richlands, Virginia, she was a daughter of Ellen Corns Carello and the late Cecil Viers. She was a 1980 graduate of Honaker High School and a 1982 graduate of the Nursing Program at Southwest Virginia Community College. She worked as a Registered Nurse at Clinch Valley Medical Center, being the youngest Nursing Supervisor to work at that hospital. She later worked at Russell County Medical Center in a management position until her illness forced her retirement.
She was a cheerleading coach for several years in Honaker Little League and was always active in helping with sports programs and encouraged her three children to participate in all sports. She was a member of Ivy Springs Baptist Church. After raising her children and being an active sports mom for many years, she changed her focus to cooking, baking, gardening and flowers. She loved to cook a big meal and feed family and friends with whatever she chose to cook. She always tried to bake a special birthday cake for each family member and often baked cakes for members of her church. Her specialty was "Apple Sauce Cakes".
She was a wonderful daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, wife, and friend. After her most recent illness restricted her mobility, she decided to explore her artistic ability through crafts, drawing, painting and her unfinished novel for Sevan. She spent most of her time in the bed working with these projects.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Newberry; her grandparents; aunt, Margaret Hale, and uncles, Truel Corns and Harlen Corns.
In addition to her mother, survivors include her loving companion, who was her high school sweetheart and most recently her special caregiver, Robert Fields; one son, Justin Newberry; two daughters, Whitney Newberry and special friend, Sam Vandyke and Lyndsey Newberry and partner, T.J.
