Patricia Abbott-Douglass passed away on December 15, 2025, surrounded by her siblings and her children, leaving behind a legacy of love, service, and adventure. Born in 1946 in Athens, Georgia, to Anne Walton Sherrill and Thomas E. Abbott Jr., she was a dedicated daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend.
Lovingly known to her friends and family as Peach, she was a true world traveler. Patricia lived in Thailand, Hawaii, and Virginia with her first husband, Thomas Nadolski, while he was stationed in the Marine Corps. They moved back to South Carolina in 1989 when he retired from active duty. She visited 28 countries during her lifetime. Despite her global adventures, her greatest joy was her family. Patricia loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, sharing her enthusiasm for movies, music, books, rocks, fossils, and memories. She also enjoyed trips to the beach, where she would participate in long-standing family shark tooth competitions, do puzzles, enjoy big family meals, and play rounds of Trivial Pursuit. She had an infectious laugh, and everyone loved to be in her company.
A proud graduate of Aiken High School’s Class of 1964, Patricia remained close to her classmates throughout her life. She shared her mother’s passion for games, finding joy in spirited rounds of bridge and backgammon, and treasured the laughter and friendships they provided.
Patricia dedicated many years to scouting, serving as a Girl Scout for 15 years, later becoming a Girl Scout leader and a Cub Scout den mother. Her commitment to community extended to her role as an officer for the Bill of Rights Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, which she joined as a junior member. She shared her faith by teaching four-year-old Mission Friends for three years at First Baptist Church and also attended prayer circles and Sunday School classes. Patricia most recently joined St. John’s Methodist Church in Aiken and felt deeply connected to the spiritual community it offered.
Patricia was predeceased by her parents and her loving husband of 18 years Frances Marion Douglass. Patricia is survived by her children: Pamela Nesmith (husband Leslie Nesmith), Charles Nadolski (wife Kim Larson), Elizabeth “Bess” Mills (husband Nick Mills), Cindy Owens, Catherine Douglass, and Debbie Hoy; grandchildren: Sarah Knapp, Andrew Mills, Marshall Mills, Emaline Peach Mills, Link Nadolski, Jasper Nadolski, and many step-grandchildren; siblings: Pamela Foreman (husband Ashley Foreman), Thom Abbott (wife Chris Abbott), Kay McNeil (husband Rick McNeil), and Joel Murdaugh; and her stepmother, Mary Abbott. Her life was a testament to kindness, curiosity, and unwavering dedication to those she loved.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, December 22nd, at 1:00 PM at Bethany Cemetery, 238 Hampton Ave NW, Aiken, SC 29801. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. John’s Methodist Church, P.O. Box 809, Aiken, SC 29802.
