Patricia Ann Thompson McLean

Patricia Ann Thompson McLean, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, passed on October 19, 2024 at the age of 86. Born on September 6, 1938, in Guilford County, Patricia's life was a testament to her unwavering spirit and dedication to family and education.

Patricia devoted her career to shaping young minds, earning a Master's Degree in education and serving as a compassionate school counselor. Her impact in the lives of countless students will be remembered for years to come, as she guided and encouraged each one with kindness and understanding.

A woman of faith, Patricia cherished her time spent at church where she found solace and joy among her friends. Alongside her faith, she relished the moments shared with her family, always eager to gather for celebrations and quiet evenings alike. Patricia was also a passionate sports fan, particularly of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill basketball team. Her enthusiasm for ACC sports was contagious, and she had a delightful way of expressing her affection for the Tar Heels, often insisting that victories were sometimes thwarted by "referees not calling it correctly."

Patricia's family was her pride and joy. She is survived by her only daughter, Shelley Metters, and her husband, Reid. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Cory Vaughn and her husband, Justin, and Caitlin Mann and her husband, Austin. The light of her life also includes her great-grandchildren, McKinley Mann and Lakelynne Vaughn. Patricia cherished her relationships with her sisters—Erma Woodfin, Ronda Bishop, and Nieca Sharrard and her husband, Jim—and they will remember her lively spirit and loving nature.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mamie Soloman Thompson and Jonathon Thompson, her beloved husband, William Walter McLean, and her sister, Shelva Peacock. Their memories will forever be entwined in the love and lessons she imparted to those she held dear.

A funeral service to celebrate Patricia’s life will be held on October 22, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory in Burlington, NC. Patricia Ann Thompson McLean will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing her, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and everyone she touched with her warmth and wisdom.
