Patricia Jane Hartman Bewick died on November 6, 2025 after a seven year battle with oral cancer. She was born to Sam and Puddin Hartman on March 3, 1952. She grew up in Farmerville and Monroe where she graduated from Neville High School. Patti attended Northeast Louisiana University where she served as a representative on the Student Government Association, was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority, was co-captain of the NLU Warbonnets Dance Team, and was a rose of Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity. She graduated with a BS degree in secondary education and a minor in library science. She taught English in Livingston Parish for nearly 40 years. Prior to retiring in 2013, she served as the librarian at Walker High School. In 2019, she was lured back into the classroom at Livingston Parish Adult Ed which she said was the most rewarding of all of her teaching career. Patti was a long time member of Satsuma Baptist Church and served on the long range planning committee as well as the personnel, finance, hostess, and scholarship committees. It was hilarious to her that she was on the hostess committee because she didn't cook. She said she just did whatever Juanita told her to do. Patti loved attending the church mission trips and outreach activities. She particularly enjoyed the Christmas caroling and the school backpack drives. Patti dearly loved her church family.
Patti is preceded in death by her parents; her beloved son, Samuel Laurence Bewick; her brother-in-law, Luther Glynn Tubbs; her nephew, Christopher Glynn Tubbs; and dear friends, Linda Williams, Marti Hutson, Billy Burge, and Kirk Jones.
She is survived by former husband, Bob Bewick; her daughters, Julie Pitcher (George) from Portland, Oregon, Sarah Babin (Jason) from Prairieville, and Kate Elgiar (Aaron) from Prairieville. She leaves behind seven wonderful grandchildren: Jack and Kate Pitcher from New York, Caroline, Sam, and Nate Babin from Prairieville, and Jackson and Henry Elgiar also from Prairieville; her niece, Mandi McKnight; and her sweet, precious dog, Lulabelle. Patti is also survived by her sister, Carol Ann Tubbs who taught her so much, like jam spreads easier than jelly and how to make grilled cheese sandwiches with the iron. Carol Ann gave up her life for the last two years to be Patti's caretaker. The family is so grateful for Carol Ann's dedication and unconditional love. She is the glue that held us together.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Patti's visitation at Satsuma Baptist Church on Monday, November 10, 2025, from 10:00 AM until funeral services begin at 12:00 PM. Burial services will follow in Resthaven Gardens of Memory Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest near her son, Sam.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Satsuma Baptist Church Missions or MD Anderson Cancer Center, in memory of Patti Bewick.
Arrangements have been entrusted to McLin Funeral Home. Online condolences may be shared at www.mclinfuneralhome.com
