Patricia Bramsen Obituary

Patricia Bramsen, successful artist, poet, and longtime resident of Boulder, CO, passed away peacefully in her beloved Mapleton Hill bungalow on June 20th, 2023. Patricia, known affectionately as Peach by many, is survived by her daughters Carin and Kirsten Bramsen, twin sister Virginia (Wylie) Milnikel, older sister Annette (Wylie) Pitcher, son-in-law Daniel Prebutt, Carin's life-partner Gregg Levine, granddaughter Lena Bramsen, and an abundance of loyal extended family, friends, and caregivers. She is preceded in death by her mother Gladys (MacDonald) Wylie, father Alan Wylie, and aunt Mildred MacDonald. Named Patricia Rae Wylie, Peach was born on May 31st, 1939 in Oak Park, Illinois, alongside her twin sister, Virginia. After attending Lyons Township High School, Patricia graduated from University of Illinois as an English major. Shortly after receiving her diploma Carin was born, followed by Kirsten three years after. In the late 1960s, Patricia and her family moved to Boulder, where she found her passion for visual arts, immersed in the vibrant creative scene. She could be spotted walking down Pearl Street to her studio or CU art classes in lavender wedge heels, opulent hats, and vintage floral dresses. Throughout Peach's life, she used art, writing, and fashion to express her creative brilliance. After briefly moving to Illinois in the 1980s, Patricia returned to Boulder, her abode a domestic museum to her wonderfully surrealist artwork. Her art became well-known in Boulder and across the country, exhibiting at Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art, Blink Gallery, Mercury Gallery, Telluride, Chicago Public Library, Northern Illinois University, among many other galleries and museums. A Poem by Patricia Bramsen: Semantic "I will reinvent the Poem. Then at noon on the first day of May the whole town will turn out to watch the ceremony when Ovid and Emily Dickinson place the wreath of alarmingly alliterative metaphors upon my head. The band will play." The band will certainly play in her honor-her family, friends, and the Boulder community marching on. In lieu of flowers, Patricia's family requests donations be made to the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art.

Peach was one of my early art mentors. I loved everything about her. The way she dressed, the way she decorated and designed her spaces...her thoughts and especially her art. She made me believe in myself and my abilities. I vividly remember going up to her studio on Pearl Street with butterflies in my stomach from the anticipation of being with her again. Peach was one of a kind. She´ll be in my heart forever.

Just came across a couple photos of Peach and me from the loft we shared during my years in Chicago. OH...what fun we had!

Peach commissioned E Jay Sims and me to make a film to accompany the opening of her one woman show...a unique prospective of Greek Mythology at the Boulder Art Center (now called Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art). Our film, The Big Cheese From Greece, inspired us both to pursue careers in film plus many other mediums. She was not only the best friend anyone could ask for, she was our patron, and our mentor... we loved her.

Peach has been in my life for over 50 years.

When I was a young child, I knew her as my best friend´s fun-loving mom. When I got older, I came to know her has the embodiment of unedited, pure creativity. She had a prodigious sense of visual storytelling, color, form, personal style, scent, and humor. She also had the rare quality of seeing and being genuinely interested in others, celebrating who they were and how they saw and understood things. By example, she taught all who knew and loved her how to freely express ourselves, enjoy the insights of others, enjoy life, and keep the groove flowing.

She will be dearly missed, but we will all be reminded of her when we feel unharnessed in our creativity, are enjoying a blossoming garden, watching a classic movie, stumbling upon a smiley face, peace sign, the face of the Mona Lisa, any piece of light-up jewelry, and so much more.

Thank you Peach
RIP

Peach, Becci Starr and I were very close friends and art partners during our earlier Boulder days, and she and I also shared an art loft in Chicago. I put together a website that features many of her art works which is still on-line: http://www.patricia-bramsen.com/

Peach was just that...a real peach loved by all. I think of her every time I make her famous M&C which I thought stood for milk and cookies. Imagine the delight I felt when served the most delicious macaroni and cheese. Peach´s artistic talent and whimsical nature have shed a ray of sunshine on this world that will never be forgotten.

I am saddened by the loss of such an amazing human being, who by her gifts and her heart made this world and countless lives better. Patricia was a beautiful, charming person inside and out. I feel so very blessed to have had the honor of caring for Patricia and getting to know her beautiful family! I will never forget you Peach, thank you for your humor, endearing spirit, radiant smiles, and endless qualities that no amount of adjectives can properly describe! You will be missed, but never forgotten.
I pray for peace and healing for her beloved family. All my love to Carin, Kirsten, and Lena as you mourn the loss of your amazing mother and grandma
With love!

As Miss Patricia's son-in-law, I always felt remarkably blessed that she was nothing like the stereotypical mother-in-law. Never a harsh word or thought ever passed between us. Instead we shared mutual love and admiration without pause. She was clever and comical, yet warm and compassionate. This amazing and everlasting sense of love and care was only eclipsed by that toward her daughters and granddaughter, which I could only compare to that of a proud and determined lioness. To quote Theodore Roosevelt, "Alone of human beings, the good and wise mother stands on a plane of equal honor with the bravest soldier; for she has gladly gone down to the brink of the chasm of darkness to bring back the children in whose hands rests the future of the years." The world has lost a unique and amazing soul. I will miss Patricia dearly.

There are not enough superlatives in the world to describe how magnificent Peach was. It was an honor and privilege to be her friend these many years. I will miss her fiercely.

My most sincere condolences to the whole family, What a beautiful gem of a woman! Leaving a beautiful art legacy that will be there for all to enjoy! "What we have once enjoyed we can never lose; all that we love deeply becomes a part of us." - Helen Keller
