Patricia "Pat" Johnson Buford, age 85, of Little Rock, passed away on April 30, 2024. She was born September 23, 1938, in Greenville, Mississippi to Paul Hugh Johnson, Sr and Lavada Christian Johnson.
Pat was a steadfast follower of Jesus Christ, a devoted wife to her husband Jimmy for 39 years, and a nurturing mother to her four children. She cherished her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren dearly. Her deep connection with Christ, her loved ones, and her church community held profound significance in her life. Loved by all who knew her, Pat was known for her warmth and never-ending capacity to connect with others.
After graduating from Dumas High School, Pat devoted herself to her beloved husband Jimmy, her family, and the local community. Actively involved in McGehee, AR, she played a pivotal role in both the church and civic life for many years. At First Baptist Church in McGehee, she passionately served as the Youth Director and taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, leaving a lasting impact on the children and youth of the community. Pat's dedication knew no bounds; she pioneered various initiatives, from establishing the first Parent Teacher Association in McGehee to helping establish the girls’ softball league and the youth tennis league. Her commitment extended beyond the church, as she served on multiple community boards, including the McGehee Hospital Foundation Board, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Ladies Chamber, and the Cemetery Association. Additionally, she took on the role of Desha County Heart Association Chairman, demonstrating her unwavering commitment to the well-being of her community.
In her later years, she resided in Little Rock, AR, relishing cherished moments with her family. She remained steadfast in her devotion to the Lord, actively participating in worship and service at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She held deep gratitude for the unwavering love and support bestowed upon her by her church family.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Lee Buford; parents Paul Hugh Johnson, Sr and Lavada Johnson; brother Paul Hugh Johnson, Jr.; and grandson, Parker Gill.
Pat is survived by her children Lynda Ovaert (Danny); Alan Buford (Bobbye Kaye); Diane Rogers (Steve); and Paula Cunningham (James); grandchildren Casey Buford (Jennifer); Drew Buford; Nathan Rogers, Hannah Neago (Josh); Lacy Jahner (Dylan) and seven great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, May 4, 2024, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church beginning at 10:00 AM with a reception visitation following. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM at McGehee Cemetery in McGehee, Arkansas.
