Patricia A Capehart
June 26, 1938 – September 27, 2025
It is with deep love and sorrow that we announce the passing of Patricia Ann Capehart, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, peacefully entered heaven on September 27, 2025.
Born in
Chattanooga, Tennessee, on June 26, 1938, Pat was the daughter of William August Schuch and Ella Boyd Fisher. She grew up in Chattanooga, where she developed a lifelong love for animals, especially dogs. Over the years, she cared for an incredible variety of animals, including horses, donkeys, llamas, potbelly pigs, goats, raccoons and even a one-armed monkey.
Her passion for dogs eventually led her into dog grooming, and she became one of the first professional groomers in the Chattanooga. Pat proudly opened her own shop, Pat's Poodle Parlor, which she ran for over 50 years. She loved her work so deeply that she often said she never felt like she worked a day in her life.
Pat also had a deep love for nature and simple joys. She delighted in feeding the wild birds and squirrels every day and found great comfort watching them gather and eat outside her window. She loved growing vegetables and taking care of her flowers.
On July 21, 1956, she married the love of her life, Charles W. Capehart, and together they built a life full of love, laughter, and devotion to their family. She was the proud mother of Charles Roger Capehart and Star Joy Kinser, and a devoted grandmother to Travis Kelly and Matthew Warren. She was also a great-grandmother to Ayden Kelly, with whom she shared a birthday.
Pat was an incredible mother, always involved in her children's lives. She faithfully attended all her children's school events including every one of Star's high school band performances at football games, even though she never quite understood how the game was played. Her love for her children was unconditional, and she was always available with her time, support, and endless care.
She will be remembered for her kindness, warmth, quiet strength, and unwavering generosity. Pat was always ready with a listening ear or a few words of wisdom and encouragement. Her impact on those who knew her is immeasurable-whether through her work, her friendships, or her cherished role as the heart of her family.
As her daughter, I can't imagine life without Mom. She has always been there for me. My best friend. The first one I would call with anything happening in my life. She was always there with advice for me and to answer any of my questions and to just listen when I needed to vent. She was my neighbor, living next door to her the last 2 years made us even closer. I don't know yet how I'll navigate life without her by my side.
She is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchild and son-in-law, Frank. Also, brother, David R. Schuch and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles Capehart, her sister Barbara Melton, and her brother William Schuch.
She is also survived by her beloved Bella, her soul dog and constant companion. Their bond was deep and unbreakable. Bella will continue to be loved and cared for by Star and will live out her life in a home where she will be cherished.
Pat will be remembered with love and deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A graveside service will be held 2:30 PM Friday, October 3, 2025, at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
