Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rainey Family Funeral Service on Dec. 26, 2025.
Margaret Patricia Adkins Carter passed away Wednesday, December 24, 2025, at her residence at the age of 85. She was born at home on the Adkins Family farm on September 1, 1940. She was the youngest child of James Moody and Margaret Barbre Adkins. Her brother Phil told Dr. Lee Williams he'd rather have a puppy. Phil later conceded that a sister was alright, once she had her own cap pistols and holster. She attended Bethel Baptist Church with her family, participating in Sunday school and training union. Upon her profession of faith in Jesus, she was baptized in the creek and began a life of learning to walk with her Savior. Most of her education happened at West Crisp School and in the tradition of her older siblings she participated in 4-H Club and played basketball. She attended the new Crisp County High School as a senior and was Miss Rebel Recorder and selected for Homecoming Court. She remembered Mr. Jim Matthews as a challenging English teacher. As part of her discipleship, she attended Norman Park College for a year. When Richard Doster introduced her to his friend at ABAC, her life changed directions. She married Harry Carter and they set up house keeping in Crisp County. After three years, they had the chance to start their own business in Louisiana with Harry's brother, Junior. She was excited to try a new place and a new independence from her hometown raising. They settled into life in
De Ridder, LA, running a successful turpentine gathering business. She became actively involved at FBC De Ridder where she taught Sunday school and participated in WMU. They made a lot of friends, hosting gatherings at their home, while raising two young daughters. When the business climate changed, they returned to Georgia. As a young woman of energy and compassion, she found volunteer work with Pinecrest Baptist Church, often visiting the elderly, teaching Sunday school and literacy and missions. She was an avid reader with a well-worn library card and a large collection of books that we called the other Carter Library. She had a work ethic that is seldom seen today. Her talents were seen in our handmade clothes, warm inviting home, lovely flowers, sweet angels, and small Christmas trees. Her organization skills ran from an orderly house to wedding receptions and bookkeeping. Later she began collecting candle holders, dishes, teddy bears and Santas. Her favorite collection was friends who became family. These included all socio-economic groups, races, and religions from the school janitor to the bank president, from the society matron to the pre-school child. She had her prejudices against laziness, greed, and bad manners. But she always believed that Jesus could redeem anyone willing to take Him as Savior. That was her prayer for you that you would ask Jesus to be your Savior and begin a life of obedience to Him. Patricia is survived by Husband, Harry Carter of
Cordele, GA; Daughters, Celeste V (Keith) Edge, Alexa (Kevin) Britton; Grandchildren, Carter (Jennifer) Chapman, Marcus (Rachel B) Edge, Andrew (Megan) Britton, Kayleigh (Alan) Pierce, Avery Pierce, Wren Pierce, Rachel (Steven) Bunn; Great-grandchildren, Virginia and Charlotte Chapman, Morgan Rackley; Gavin Edge, Malex, McRae, and Aiden Bunn, Nathan and Maddison Britton. Visitation will be held Monday, December 29, 2025 at Pincrest Baptist Church beginning at 10:00 a.m. with the funeral service beginning at 11:00 a.m. Burial will take place at Sunnyside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Lottie Moon offering or the renovation fund at Pinecrest Baptist Church.
