Patricia Cavins Obituary

Published by Legacy on Mar. 5, 2025.
Patricia (Trish) Ann Cavins was born in Albia, Iowa, on February 7, 1937, to Joseph and Margaret Crane. She graduated from Chariton High School and soon after met Robert Cavins. They married on May 12, 1956. Already a talented seamstress, she sewed her own wedding dress. Bob and Trish had three children, Jeff, Jayne and Leslie. Bob and Trish were married for 68 years. Though Trish moved from Iowa, she kept in close touch with her siblings through the years.
Trish enjoyed being creative. Early on in her life she discovered sewing. She made many everyday and special occasion clothes for not only herself but her children as well. Every detail of the clothes she made had a professional look to them, and she took great pride in everything she made. Other crafts she excelled in were cross stitch, embroidery, knitting, floral arranging, ceramics and drawing.
She was a natural at interior design and received her certificate in interior design while living in Colorado. She worked for a home builder designing the interior of model homes, taking great care of every detail. Her personal clients trusted her with her bold designs and loved her work. She also designed, decorated and remodeled several of her family homes in Bloomington, Chanhassen, Owatonna, Victoria and Chaska.
Later in life she discovered rubber stamping and enjoyed it so much that she opened her own store in Chanhassen named Smudges. It was a store where every customer quickly became a friend. She loved helping people design cards and artwork, and her classes would fill up fast. Her personality and love of crafting drew people to her. Smudges soon became the place to hang out and share life stories with care and laughter. Hugs were in great supply.
The Catholic faith was important to Trish all her life. She and Bob were part of the Cursillo community at St. Hubert's. Trish had a special place in her heart for disabled children and volunteered at Courage Center. She and Bob also fostered a young boy from India, Awanish, for a year while his mother recovered from serious burns. He remains in contact with the family.
Trish was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Cavins; parents, Joseph and Margaret Crane, and her brother, Tom Crane.
She is survived by her children Jeff (Emily) Cavins, Jayne Cavins, and Leslie Cavins; grandchildren Carly (Patrick) Felicetta, Jaki Cavins, and Toni Cavins; Great-grandchildren Dominic, Francesco, and Fiona Felicetta; her siblings, JoAnn Burson, Mary Margaret Wallace, Jim (Paula) Crane, Suzi (Gary) James; and many nieces and nephews.
