The Chandler family is heartbroken to share the news of the passing of PATRICIA "PATTY" COBURN CHANDLER who left us on November 13, 2025 at the age of 85. Patty is survived by her daughters Tammie Chandler Miller and Pammie Chandler Egan, son in laws Steven Egan and Maxie Miller and grandsons Adam Egan and Parker Mulneix along with his wife Brooke Burton Mulneix, sisters Lisa Johnson and Jean Gibson and her husband Darwin. She is predeceased by her beloved husband of 66 years Eddie, her parents Jim and Rose Coburn, sister Glenna Childers, and grandchildren Graham and Griffin Mulneix.
Patty was born in St. Albans and remained St. Albans proud her entire life. She was the oldest of four girls and held her sisters close to her heart throughout her life, relationships she treasured. She fell hard for a wily young man while still in junior high and never looked back. Eddie was the love of her life. Their hearts were bonded. Holding hands, side-by-side for life. Inseparable from the start, they married a few years later and created a wonderful life and labored to build a business while starting a family. They grew Chandlers Floor and Wall Covering into a centerpiece of St. Albans history on Main Street. Sixty fabulous years of trial and triumph that comes from owning your own business.
But Patty had a side gig… a true activist at heart. She was a political fanatic and was elected to city council and served as Councilman-At-Large for her beloved St. Albans. She proudly served as Chamber president and is a member Emeritus of the Chamber to this day. She was Executive Director of STARDA and worked diligently to raise funds to build the local library. She was recognized for her dedication with the Gary King Community Service Award. She was so proud to receive the award named in memory of her dear friend.
She loved activism, politics and her community but her heart was her family. She and Eddie shared their love with two daughters they thought they'd never have. She had a sense for seeing her girls for who they really are and she let them shine! She was a dedicated mom and the wind beneath their wings every step of the way. She and Eddie made their lives special. She made their friends a priority and never thought twice about being 'that' house where friends could come to exhale or sleepover. She made a home that was filled with cherished memories for her girls and an entire community of their friends. Endless days of lessons, sports, dance, room mom duties, countless hours of hair and makeup... she sacrificed without fanfare and showed them a wonderful example as she ushered them into adulthood.
She was a doting grandma and her boys were her pride and joy! She was fortunate to be part of Parker's daily life and adopted his friends as her own. She helped raise him and is called grandma by his entire posse who say her PB&Js are legendary! With Adam, she made up for the distance with a determination to share his life moments. She was his cheerleader and support. Showing up and being present every step of the way. She adored her son-in-law. They share a special bond and sly sense of humor. She was so proud of her family.
Patty was serious about the tradition of family dinners and a top chef in her own right. She was the family hostess. Overcrowded family meals were common holiday occurrences. The table would stretch through two rooms and she would slave to make a perfect presentation. Baked steak made with love!
She had a strong faith and found a church home and beloved friends at Grace Baptist Temple. She felt strength from her bible and believed forgiveness was a key to heaven.
Patty had a cutting wit, a beautiful smile and infectious laugh. She was queen of the backhanded compliment! She loved the Mountaineers and all things West Virginia, followed the NBA and was an unlikely fan of Nascar. She was a cancer survivor, loved to travel, loved the beach and had some of her best moments vacationing with the entire family in tow.
It is a tribute to her life well lived that at 85 years old her high school friends remain in her life. Her beloved gang continues to share a monthly 'lunch bunch' gathering to this day. The Red Dragon Class of '58 was a quality crew!
Patty firmly believed a bad mood and many of life's ills could be fixed by applying a little extra blush and some lipstick! She had impeccable style and loved a lil sparkle. Eddie carried her on a pedestal and she presented an air of class and glamour but always with a humble spirit.
She lived a long, beautiful life and was loved to the fullest every day of it. She will be profoundly missed. The world will be quieter without her voice but her laughter will echo in the hearts of all who loved her. And so, so many loved her.
We hope heaven is everything she ever dreamed. We know she ran into Eddie's waiting arms and they are again, holding hands, side-by-side and dancing into eternity.
