Patty Generaux left our world peacefully in her sleep on Jan. 19, 2025. At age 95, she had experienced a lifetime filled with devoted friends and family and a rich tapestry of experiences. Patty savored a good glass of wine, loved dancing, and was the consummate fashionista. She never met a pair of high heels she didn’t like. Rarely could she pass a pooch without stopping for a pet. If you happened to be one of Patty’s many cats, you had hit the lottery. With an upbeat, caring personality, Patty developed a substantial network of close friends. She loved to entertain and, as a hostess, was always at the top of her game.
Born in Toledo, OH to Valentine Gross and Gertrude Kurschat, “Patsy” enjoyed a vibrant childhood until age five when her mother suddenly passed away. Raised by grandparents until her father remarried, Patty left home at age 15 to reside with extended family in Ridgefield, WA.
This proved to be a godsend. Patty flourished at Ridgefield HS, joining the drama club and cheerleading squad. It was here she met her future husband, Don Generaux. The two were married in 1947. A year later, their only child, Guy, was born.
Patty was employed by several businesses around Vancouver and lastly, as the main office secretary at Lewis Jr HS. She is remembered by countless students and parents for her welcoming demeanor. In 1957, Don, Patty and Guy built their first of two houses in the Minnehaha neighborhood. Later, they joined the newly developed Green Meadows Golf Club as charter members. With the purchase of two fairway lots, the family built another pair of homes in 1963 and 1969. The latter became Patty’s beloved refuge for 54 splendid years.
Passionate about travel, Patty had seen much of the states; however, her favorite destination was Palm Springs, where she spent numerous winter seasons. While trips to Australia and Mexico were special, the most memorable excursion was with her daughter-in-law and granddaughter to Paris. While in the south of France, the trio famously connected with their French Generaux relatives.
Patty is survived by son, Guy Generaux (Pam); granddaughter, Courtney Generaux Olson (Craig); great-granddaughters, Marie Rose Olson and Remy Anne Olson; grandson, Brian Generaux; and nephew, David Generaux (Laura). Our family is indebted to dear friend, Pat Dove as well. Patty was preceded in death by husband, Don Generaux; second husband, Bill Murray; and companion, Ralph Caterina.
