Patricia Kay "Patti" Jones passed away peacefully on November 20, 2025, surrounded by her beloved family. A devoted mother of four and adoring grandmother of 19, she was 73 years old.
Patti was born on October 22, 1952, in Rawlins, Wyoming, the ninth of eleven children born to Leslie and Lucille (Knott) Goddard. Her childhood was marked by many moves, adventures, and deep family bonds. Eventually the Goddards settled in Tucson, Arizona, where Patti graduated from Tucson High School.
Patti first met her sweetheart, Thomas Jones, just before he left on his mission in 1975-though sparks didn't fly right away. Everything changed the day he returned. Patti went to the airport with friends to welcome him home, and as she watched him walk through the gate, she said she instantly knew he was the man she would marry. Happily, he felt the same, and they were sealed in the Mesa Arizona Temple on May 6, 1978. Together, they welcomed four daughters-Cassie Lynne, Candace Jewel, Shawna Catrice, and Diane Charee-who became the center of her world.
Although Patti described herself as a shy child (a fact her siblings lovingly confirmed), her daughters could hardly believe it. To them, she was a vibrant family matriarch who could spend hours talking, laughing, and listening-often trying to get a word in as her girls bantered like Rory and Lorelai Gilmore.
She spoke fondly of her childhood, always with warmth and gratitude. Though her family had very little, she recalled how there was always enough for school lunch and always enough love. Patti remained close to her siblings throughout her life, talking with at least one of them every day. Their joys, challenges, and daily details were treasures to her.
Patti is survived by her children Cassie (Brian) Miller, Candace (Andrew) Haws, Shawna (Devin) Knighton, and Charee (Charles) Thomas; and by her siblings Rose Alger, Jack (Shirley) Goddard, and Janice (Bill) Brannon.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Leslie Chapman Goddard and Lucille Knott, her
husband Thomas Jones and siblings Charles, Mable, Robert, Tommy, Sharon, Marjorie, and Danny.
Family was truly everything to Patti. She cherished every stage of her daughters' lives-even the teenage years-and made it a priority to attend school plays, award ceremonies, and special events. Volunteering at her daughters' elementary school became especially meaningful to her, particularly her work with the counselor's Divorce Dog program, offering comfort and hope to children navigating difficult transitions.
Her grandchildren were the brightest lights in her life. Patti loved each of them deeply and individually. She took them out for their birthdays, called them "just because," cheered for them at games and performances, remembered their favorite foods, cooked with them, hosted joyful family gatherings, and-most famously-kept her home stocked with their favorite treats and sodas. Many of them lovingly detoured to her house after school, knowing Grandma's door (and pantry) were always open. She understood that her influence as a mother and grandmother was both sacred and enduring.
After the passing of her dear husband, Patti found fulfillment in temple service, working in the Bountiful and later the Deseret Peak Temples. She also served as a Church Service Missionary with the BYU Pathway program, work that brought her deep joy and purpose.
Patti-Mom-Grandma-will be profoundly missed. Her warmth, devotion, humor, and steadfast love leave a beautiful legacy in the many lives she touched.
