Patricia Ann Corey Lumpkin
Pat Lumpkin, 96, of
Muncie, Indiana, passed away peacefully on November 19, 2025, after a brief illness, surrounded by her loving family and enveloped in God's grace. Pat lived with purpose, loved with her whole heart, and leaves behind a legacy of strength and devotion that will shine for generations.
Born September 10, 1929, in Miami, Florida, Pat dedicated her life first to her career and then to her family. She graduated from Catholic high school at age 16, then attended Latrobe (Pa.) nursing school, earning her Registered Nurse (RN) qualification at 20 after receiving an exemption from the typical minimum age requirement of 21.
She pursued a successful 17-year career as an operating-room nurse. In 1963, she married Ed Lumpkin and chose to wholeheartedly turn her attention to being a full-time mother. Pat and Ed raised their family beginning in Dallas, Texas, before moving to Atlanta, Georgia, and finally settling in
Muncie, Indiana, in 1978.
Pat was a constant presence at her children's and later grandchildren's activities. A gracious host, she opened her home as a gathering place to generations of friends. Many still refer to her as "Mom Lump" to this day.
Pat was involved for decades with Psi Iota Xi sorority, Muncie Symphony, and Bargain Box. An accomplished cook, her chili was legendary. Bridge, hearts, books, crossword puzzles, travel, and watching her favorite teams were lifelong pursuits.
Known as Pat to friends, Mom to her children, Aunt Pilo to others, and then joyfully called "Kiki" thirty years ago when her grandson couldn't quite say "Mimi." She even earned the title Great Kiki with the recent arrival of two great-grandchildren. To the end, Pat remained incredibly sharp, quick-witted, and fiercely independent. She kept meticulous track of birthdays, anniversaries, and milestones in her large family, stayed current on world events, and gently (or not so gently) kept everyone in line-all while showering them with unconditional love.
Pat is survived by her son, King Lumpkin (Deborah); daughter, Lisa Breese (Terry); grandchildren, Michael Lumpkin, Grace Curtis (Zach), Lexi Miller (Riley), Amanda Breese, and Megan Breese; step-grandchildren Lucas Robinson and Alexander Robinson; great-grandchildren, Monroe Corey Miller and Peyton Curtis; sister, Peggy Jarvis; and nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Lumpkin, her mother, Gwendolyn S. Ziegler, and her father, Andrew Corey.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel. Pat will be laid to rest beside her husband Ed at Evergreen Memorial Park in Athens, Georgia.
Visitation will be held at The Meeks Mortuary in Muncie on Saturday, November 29th, from 12 pm-2 pm with a service to follow.
