Patricia "Patty" A. McCarthy of East Bridgewater died peacefully, surrounded by her family on September 30, 2021. She fought a brave and lengthy battle with PCA (Posterior Cortical Atrophy, a rare form of Dementia). She was 74 years young.
Patty was born in Brockton, Massachusetts to the late Pasquale and Lena (Castagna) Michienzi. She was a graduate of Brockton High School's Class of 1965.
Patty serendipitously met her husband, Gary R. McCarthy, while attending his sister's bridal shower to secretly scope out the groom. Little did she realize that when Gary heroically fixed her flat tire that day, that she was meeting the love of her life. The rest was history.
Patty and Gary married on April 27, 1969. They settled in East Bridgewater, where they raised their two wonderful daughters, Michelle & Melissa. Patty was the most loving wife and mother, cherishing family and friendship more than anything. In addition to being a dedicated homemaker, she managed Whitman Shoe Repair and Dry Cleaning, a business originally owned by her father. She was a talented seamstress and after her Dad passed, she managed the family business for a few years along side her husband Gary.
Patty and Gary loved bowling, and were longtime members of the "Owls and Pussycats" bowling league out of East Bridgewater.
Patty had a passion for cooking. Everything she prepared was delicious, and she had a knack for Italian food. Whether you were stopping in for a quick visit or spending a holiday at their home, you would find her in the kitchen preparing a full meal for family and friends. You could always count on a sauce on Sundays and on special occasions, as well as her mother's famous 'rice things', that have now been passed down to future generations.
Patty was an active member at St. John's Church and could be found helping out at the Parish or teaching Sunday school. In 2017, Gary and Patty sold their family home in East Bridgewater to retire at Oak Point in Middleboro. Together they met some wonderful friends, but did not get to take part in nearly as much as they had hoped. Patty loved music, and you could always find her grooving at her morning Zumba class.
Patty enjoyed the simple things in life; hugging her grandchildren, chocolate martinis, her toes in the sand at Lake Winnipesaukee and listening to Keith Urban. She was the most loving and caring person, and will be missed by all who knew her. For 54 blessed years, Patricia was the loving wife to Gary R. McCarthy of Middleboro. She was the devoted mother of Michelle A. Leo, her husband Anthony of Reading, and Melissa A. Cottreau and her husband Ryan of Raynham. Proud and loving "NaNa" to Gabriella, Camden, Dominic, and Quinn. Loving sister of Mary Michienzi & Carlos Cordeiro of Somerset, Elaine & Mark Dombrosky of Avon, and Frank & Maryann Michienzi of West Bridgewater. Patty is also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews in both Massachusetts and New York, as well as many lifelong friends.
In the words of Keith Urban, 'I'm never gonna be the same When God whispered your name." She will forever be missed, but will always be in our hearts.
The family would like to thank the staff, aids and nurses at All American Memory Care Facility in Raynham for their care and compassion.
All are cordially invited to visitation hours on Sunday, October 3rd from 2pm to 5pm at Chapman Funeral Home, 98 Bedford St, Bridgewater, MA 02324.
A Catholic Mass in honor or Patty's life will be celebrated at 10am on October 4th at St. John's Church, 210 Central St, E. Bridgewater, followed by a burial at Central Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation, in memory of Patricia A. McCarthy.
