Patricia Miller Obituary

Visit the Farrar Funeral Home - Jefferson City website to view the full obituary.

Patricia Diane Miller, 80, passed away on December 5th , at her home in Talbott, TN, surrounded by her family after a period of declining health. Diane was born April 14, 1945 in Jefferson County to Harvey Morrell and Grace Elizabeth Pinkston. She was the oldest child and a big sister to three younger brothers.

Diane attended elementary school in both Jefferson City and Oak Ridge and later attended high school in Jefferson City. She loved her younger brothers and served as a second mom for them during her teenage years. She married the love of her life, Thales Miller, in August of 1962, and they have remained inseparable for the last 63 years. She could also handle a 1957 Volkswagen Beetle with a stick shift.

After losing their first child, Connie Melinda at birth, Thales and Diane established their family with two sons, Brian and Randy Miller. Diane was a faithful and dedicated mom and was involved in every aspect of raising two boys, leveraging her experience with her younger brothers. From coaching tee ball teams to running concession stands and reading bedtime stories, to making a hot breakfast every morning, she was simply a “super mom”.

Diane also worked at Park Belks, Magnavox, Sav-Mor Pharmacy, and completed the Cosmetology Program at the Hamblen School of Beauty in Morristown. She then owned and operated her own in-home beauty shop for over 20 years.

An “All American Grandmother”, Diane will be best remembered for her extraordinary love for her four grandsons. She played with each of them for hours-on-end, attended every birthday, ballgame, trip, school event, and celebration possible-with plenty of highway miles to show for it. Her investment of time in her grandchildren and family was truly amazing.

Diane was also a courageous cancer survivor for over 13 years. She was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in 2012. Her initial treatment lasted about 18 months. The AML returned and she was approved for a stem cell transplant at Vanderbilt in 2014. A big thank you to Margy Golden from UT Medical Center, an amazing nurse that helped Diane with her treatments. We are also so thankful for the Vanderbilt staff and Casey Lauren, her perfect match stem cell donor from Kansas City, Missouri. His sacrifice and gift of life to Diane will forever be a blessing for our family.

A member of Economy Methodist Church, Diane has been steadfast in her faith and love of Christ. She showcased that love through her close relationships with her family and many close friendships.

Diane is preceded in death by her parents Harvey Morrell and Grace Elizabeth Pinkston, her brothers, Michael, Dennis, and Larry Pinkston.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Thales Miller, their sons Randy Michael Miller (Kay Miller) of Knoxville; Brian Miller (Jeannie Miller) of Kingsport. Grandchildren Adam Clay Miller (Maggie Mobley), Nashville; Andrew Lloyd Miller, Atlanta, GA; Randon Thales Miller, Knoxville; Raleigh Michael Miller, Knoxville.

A graveside service will be held on December 9th , at 2:00 pm at Jefferson Memorial Gardens. The family will have a celebration of life gathering later this year. Pastor Howard Agnew from Economy Church of Morristown will be officiating.

The family would like to thank Smokey Mountain Hospice and Lesa Larkins for the extra care they showed Diane during the last several days. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to the Lymphoma and Leukemia Fund at www.leukemiarf.org.
