Patricia Craig Mingle, 85, of Fayetteville passed away Friday, May 30 at Cape Fear Valley Hospital.
Born in Altoona, Pennsylvania, Pat was the daughter of Charles Craig, Marie Sandrus Craig and Rebecca Lytle Craig. She met Walt, the love of her life, in her high school years. After graduation, he joined the Army and they married. Having never ventured far from her hometown, she took on the adventure of being a military wife, travelling across the country and across the world, being blessed with 3 little redhead girls, along the way,
When they decided to set down roots in Fayetteville, Pat started temporary work as a secretary. Her hard work and intelligence quickly led her to Murchison and Bailey Advertising Agency. While learning the ropes of the creative and interesting world of advertising, she developed friendships that would last the rest of her life! As she grew in her career, she joined Hodges Associates Advertising Agency as an Account Executive, handling local, regional and national accounts. She was passionate about doing her best work for each client and threw herself head first into learning their industry. She enrolled in a 16-week welding class at FTCC in order to better understand her national welding account (and she learned to weld!) While working with Richard Petty on a series of 3 ads, she took advantage of the chance to ride on a NASCAR test run at over 150 mph! Pat retired the first time at age 70, but the agency's largest account requested she still handle their advertising, so she continued to work part-time from home for the next 14 years! She finally retired at the end of 2024, after 42 years at Hodges Associates and 55 years in the advertising business!
Pat was a successful career woman who always put her family first! She set an excellent example for her daughters, balancing family, church, scouts, civic and charity activities while managing to have fun along the way! She was not a particularly "sporty" person, but she was always there for her kids' and grandkids' games, matches and meets (even if she didn't always understand the game)! She loved the arts and included her kids and grandkids as regular attendees at local concerts and theater performances.
As a respected member of the local business community, Pat was sought out to lead or be a part of numerous boards and committees for the Fayetteville Area Advertising Federation (where she was recognized with the lifetime achievement Silver Medal Award); Methodist College Foundation; Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce; The Dogwood Festival and as the Countywide Public Relations Director for the Girl Scouts.
Pat used her creative problem solving and organizational skills in support of many charitable and civic organizations. As the Chairman of the American Heart Association Heart Walk, her efforts resulted in the #1 walk in NC! With a personal connection due to friends who were diagnosed with the disease, Pat successfully led the Pulmonary Fibrosis Driving Awareness Golf Tournament.
As a 56+ year member of St Patrick's Church, she was active in Catholic Social Ministries and the 50+ Ministry, Operation Christmas Child and was a clinic appointment volunteer for The CARE Clinic.
Pat was an avid reader, loved to play cards and games with her friends and family and loved to travel! She loved family reunions, wherever they were, but was happiest when they were at a beach!
Pat was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved daughter Suzanne Weidhas, and her siblings, Bernie Lytle, Patrick Lytle and Dorothy Mitterer. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Walter Mingle; daughters, Stephanie Collins and husband Bob, and Sheri Collins and husband Rob; grandchildren Drew Collins, Tayler Fox (Morgan), Hunter Collins (Kali), Carson Collins and Brodie Collins; great grandchildren Rian Collins and Mavis Collins; and her siblings Betty Cernansky, Eleanor Berger and Bob Lytle and many nieces and nephews.
