Patricia “Patsy” Sophia Schmid, 83, of Linn, passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at Westphalia Hills, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on August 29, 1942, in Folk, Missouri, the eldest daughter of Vincent and Ellanora (Stegeman) Cassmeyer. She married Donald “Donnie” Schmid on November 28, 1963, in Folk.
Patricia, affectionately called “Patsy” by her father, raised 5 beautiful children and maintained a loving home while keeping Donnie’s shenanigans in check. An avid reader, she also enjoyed daily walks, baking delicious pies and cookies, listening to country music, watching Cardinals baseball, talking on the phone, admiring her hummingbirds, and playing cards with friends and family. Patsy will be remembered for her sense of humor, infectious laugh, gentle touch, love of children, faith in God, and steadfast devotion to the St. Louis Cardinals and her family. Her strength and perseverance were always evident, especially while battling Parkinson's disease for her last 20 years.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Donnie; her children, Dennis (Mary Carol) Schmid of Jefferson City, Holly (Mike) Squires of Marion, TX, Robin (Ken) Hoerchler of Jefferson City, Scott (Dina) Schmid of Cincinnati, OH, Jamie (Joel) Emery of St. Louis; 14 grandchildren, Anna (Schmid) Prenger, Clarice Schmid, Eric Squires, Samantha Squires, Erin Hoerchler, Jack Hoerchler, Emily Hoerchler, Joe Hoerchler, Eleanor Schmid, Amanda Schmid, Audrey Schmid, Eli Emery, Benjamin Emery, Nicholas Emery; one great-grandson, Jon Chmilar-Squires, and her sister, Shirley (Henry) Strother of Centertown.
Patricia was preceded in death by her father: Vincent Cassmeyer; her mother: Ellanora (Stegeman) Cassmeyer; brothers: Stanley Cassmeyer, Ronald Cassmeyer, Dennis Cassmeyer, daughter-in-law Mary Carol (Rockers) Schmid, and granddaughter Claire Weissenberger.
Family and friends will be received from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 1, 2026, at Morton Chapel in Linn. An additional visitation will be held Monday morning from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at St. George Catholic Church in Linn.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 2, 2026, at St. George Church in Linn with Fr. Colin Franklin as the Celebrant. Interment will be held in St. George Parish Cemetery.
