Obituary of Patricia A. Reed
Patricia A. Reed (Pat)
Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, Patricia A. Reed (Pat) passed away peacefully on September 23, 2024, at the age of 88. She was born to Merl and Alice (Cook) Annis on June 26, 1936, in Belfast, Maine, where she lived her entire life.
Pat was a devoted mother, always there when her family needed her most, offering unwavering support, guidance, and unconditional love. She was protective, kind, strong, and caring, and her family was her greatest source of happiness. She cherished large family gatherings, finding joy in watching everyone laugh, talk, and enjoy each other's company.
Known for her exceptional cooking and baking, Pat had a special talent for making homemade biscuits and pies. She remembered everyone's favorite pie and would often bake it for their birthdays. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing bingo, traveling, and watching the wildlife in her yard, including the birds visiting her feeders and flower garden. She loved taking car rides, whether to visit family or simply to explore her hometown.
Pat was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Malcolm Vaughan Jr., and her second husband, Theodore F. Reed, with whom she shared nearly 60 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Merl Annis; six sisters, Bernice Jones, Muriel Taylor, Mereta Littlefield, Helene Phinney, Vivian Smart, and Marilyn Chase; one granddaughter, Jana Vaughan; and one grandson, Dennis "Boo" Vaughan.
Pat is survived by three sons: Dennis Vaughan of Brewer, Maine; Theodore R. Reed and his life partner, Karen Brown, of Belmont, Maine; and Merl Reed and his wife, Tamie, of Swanville, Maine. She is also survived by five daughters: Diane Jackson of Stockton Springs, Maine; Lisa Vaughan of Belmont, Maine; Sharon Reed-Hall and her husband, Buzzy, of Belmont, Maine; Karen Stams and her husband, Travis, of Stow, Massachusetts; and Brenda Reed and her life partner, Ethan Columbia, of Belfast, Maine. Pat leaves behind 26 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, one brother, Leon Annis and his wife, Margene, of Swanville, Maine, one sister, Joyce Feero of Alton, Maine, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to her wonderful caregivers, Michelle Ward and Tracy Williams, for their kindness, support, and daily care. They also extend their thanks to the staff at WCGH and Gentiva Hospice for their compassionate care during her time in the hospital.
A Celebration of Life for Pat will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at the Belfast Yacht Club & Event Center 15 Front Street, Belfast, Maine.
