Patricia (Rooney) Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Thurston Rowe Funeral Home on Dec. 24, 2025.
Patricia J. Hayes passed away at home on November 5, 2025 after a brief illness. She is survived by her loving husband, Anthony "Tony," of 61 years. Born March 8, 1945 in Belfast, Northern Ireland, the youngest of 10 children, to Anne and Thomas Rooney. Patricia immigrated to Connecticut in 1971 with her husband, children, and parents.

Motherhood and homemaking were her calling, and she was a loving caregiver to many. In the early 2000s she worked for the American Red Cross as a Director of Blood Services. A talented knitter, Patricia loved knitting Irish sweaters for her loved ones. She was the ultimate hostess and was happy to entertain her extended family for any special occasion.

Patricia's seven grandchildren were the joy of her life. "Granny" was always happy to celebrate all of their accomplishments throughout the years and never missed a special occasion. Each of them has been blessed by the wonderful years they had with the unconditional love of their Granny.

Patricia is also survived by her two children and their spouses, Anna-Marie and David Wilson of Litchfield Connecticut and Anthony Hayes and his wife, Kathleen, of Douglas, Massachusetts; her seven grandchildren, Michael, Daniel, Kelly, and Anne Hayes of Douglas, Massachusetts; Elizabeth (nee Wilson) and Alexander Gitlin of Houston, Texas; Thomas and Brendan Wilson of Litchfield, Connecticut; her great-grandson Robert Gitlin of Houston, Texas; her loving sister, Margaret Devlin, of Dallas, Texas; her brother-in-law, Bernard Shields, of Phoenix, Arizona; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, November 11, at Thurston Rowe Funeral Home, 283 Torrington Road in Litchfield, Connecticut, from 5 to 7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Anthony of Padua Church, 49 South Street, Litchfield, at 11 AM Wednesday, November 12, 2025. Burial will follow in St. Anthony Cemetery.
