PUNXSUTAWNEY - Patricia A. (Triponey) Rougeux passed at age 86 with her children at her side on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2024.
She was born April 4, 1938 in Winburne to the late Francis Paul and Irene Edetta (Hewitt) Triponey. She married Joseph A. Rougeux of Frenchville, on Dec. 1, 1956, in St. Agnes Catholic Church in Morrisdale.
Pat belonged to SS. Cosmas and Damian Catholic Church in Punxsutawney since 1958, where she served as Eucharistic Minister, Parish collection counter and Sanctuary cleaner. Pat was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court St. Rita #353, serving over the years as Recording Secretary and as Financial Secretary. She was in charge of the Parish Prayer Network and for many years was also in charge of the parish's religious goods shop, as well as the Grand Prize Tickets sales and returns for the parish's Lawn Festival to support SS. Cosmas and Damian Catholic School.
Pat was also very active in the Punxsutawney community. She was a member of the Punxsutawney F.O.E. Aerie #1231, where she was Auxiliary Secretary for 9 years. Beginning in 1962, she was a member of John Jacob Fisher Unit 62 of the American Legion Auxiliary and served as secretary to that organization since 1983. She was a member of the Mahoning Valley Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 2076 since 2006 and served as secretary to that organization also. Pat, along with her husband Joe and her brother Gerald Triponey, was a founding member of the Jefferson County Veterans Honor Guard and served as secretary for that group since its inception in 2004.
Pat was captain and/or co-captain of the Rougeux Family's Jefferson County
Relay For Life Team since 2005, which helped raise money for National
Cancer Society-sponsored cancer research. She was an active American Red Cross volunteer and coordinated the blood donation drives held at Mahoning Valley VFW Post 2076 in Punxsutawney.
Pat was recognized for her many volunteer civic activities by the Punxsutawney Career Women's Club by being named as one of honorees during their 2017 Career Women's Week. She was also selected as the 2018 Punxsutawney Woman of the Year.
In addition to her parents, Pat was preceded in death by her husband Joe; her sister, Marian Little; brother, Donald C. Triponey; son-in-law, Edward L. Mittchell; and grandson, Brian J. Rougeux.
She is survived by her six children: Joseph P. Rougeux (Kim) of Indiana, PA, Debora A. Rougeux, Suzanne I. Mitchell (Ed) and Valerie D. McFarland (Ken) of Punxsutawney, Brenda M. Rougeux of Pittsburgh, and Gregory A. Rougeux of Frenchville; four grandchildren: René M. Baker (Ryan), Elaine D. Young (Cody), Rebecca A. Neal (Christopher) and Christopher L. Mitchell (Cassandrah); and five great-grandchildren: Scarlett M. and Malia R. Baker, Bryson and Ava Young, with Baby Boy Neal on the way. Also surviving is brother, Gerald E. Triponey of Reynoldsville, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received on Sunday, Dec. 15, 2024, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Fait - d'Argy Funeral Home, 117 N. Jefferson St., Punxsutawney, PA 15767.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at SS. Cosmas and Damian Roman Catholic Church in Punxsutawney on Monday, Dec. 16, 2024, beginning at 11 a.m., with Rev. Msgr. Joseph Riccardo officiating. Interment will follow at the American Legion Plot in Circle Hill Cemetery, Punxsutawney, Jefferson Co., PA.
In lieu of flowers, Pat requested that memorial donations be made to SS. Cosmas and Damian Catholic School or to the
American Cancer Society's Jefferson County
Relay For Life to support cancer research.
