It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Nana and Sister, Patricia Arlene Smith. She took her last breath at the age of 88 in the comfort of her own home where she loved to be, and was surrounded by her family and loved ones. Thursday, May 29, 2025 is the day Jesus chose to come and take her home to heaven and it is a day that her family will never forget.
Patricia was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, cherished and adored by all that knew her. She was a pillar of strength and love, and was always willing to lend an ear and a helping hand. Patricia was known not only for her huge heart but for her feisty personality, her ability to be authentic, and her vibrant spirit.
Patricia was born on June 25, 1936 in Newport RI to the late Gwendolyn and Edward Sharkey. She has three sisters, Barbara Tobin who she will be reunited with in heaven as well as her two surviving sisters Ellen Sharkey Fucile, and Gwen Sharkey Porea.
Patricia was not only a daughter and a sister but she was also a devoted wife to the late James Smith, and together they had six children. Edward Smith, Gwendolyn George, Kevin Smith and Michael Smith were her children that were called home to heaven before her, while she is survived by her daughter Cindy Kerr, her son Ralph Smith and his wife Nancy Smith. In addition to her children she was blessed with many grandchildren that she loved more than life itself and they are as listed; Stephen Ferri, Kristina Ferri, Raven Ferri, Jessica George, Melissa Connell, Jennifer Connell, Matthew Kerr, Andrew Kerr, Ian Kerr, and Cyrinda Martucci. Meanwhile, Patricia was also a great-grandmother and even a great-great-grandmother and she will be missed by each and every one of us. Until we see her again we will hold onto our endless memories and we will store them deeply in our hearts.
On Sunday June 8, 2025, visitation will be held from 5pm-8pm, followed by a service to celebrate her life at 8:00 pm, in the Memorial Funeral Home located at 375 Broadway in Newport RI 02840.
