Patricia Joyce (Fast) Steele
It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of Patricia Joyce (Fast) Steele on November 15 th
2022, at Columbus Riverside Hospital. She was born on June 25 th 1933, to Lucille R. and Harold B. Fast.
Patricia grew up on the west side of Columbus (the bottoms) and was a graduate of the 1951 class of
Central High School.
She is survived by her four children, loving sons Mark (J. Otero, Deceased), Michael (Lisa) and Matthew.
Dedicated and loving daughter Betsy (Bernie), 16 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Preceded in
death by granddaughter Jennifer, grandson Jason and great grandson Michael.
Patricia was a longtime supporter of OSU Women’s Basketball, was an avid member of the Rebounders
Club and attended all home games for over 20 years.
She was an experienced baker, with banana bread and cookies being her specialty. She gifted her baked
goods not only to family, but, bank tellers, grocery store clerks and her many friends. Patricia lived her
life “frugally” and was never one to pass up a sale, earning her the name “Bargain Betty”. However, she
was especially generous with her children and grandchildren.
Patricia worked for the Ohio Bureau of Employment Services in downtown Columbus OH for nearly 25
years where she rose to the position of supervisor.
As a downtown worker she adopted her own homeless person, making sure she had at least one meal
per day Monday through Friday.
She was a resident of Clintonville for 50 plus years. Patricia was a strong willed but kind woman who left
a lasting impression on many. The sudden loss of our dear mother, grandmother, and great
grandmother leaves a void that can never ever be filled. She will be terribly missed and never, ever
forgotten. Her smile will live in our hearts always and forever. Services will be held at Shaw- Davis
Funeral Home 4341 N high St on Tuesday November 22nd cremation will be performed on a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the National Parkinson's Foundation.
