Patrick Kirk Baldwin died peacefully on 1/9/26 in Savannah, GA after a 5 year battle with Dementia. He was born on June 9, 1940 in Detroit, Michigan, to Kirk and Geraldine Baldwin (McCourt). He grew up in Birmingham, Michigan, where he was raised alongside his brothers and sisters. From an early age, Patrick distinguished himself as a gifted athlete, particularly in ice hockey. He learned to play the game he loved on Quarton Lake, just a short walk down the street from the home in which he grew up—an experience that sparked a lifelong passion for the sport.

Patrick achieved something rare for American hockey players of his era: he spent his high school years playing hockey for St. Michael’s in Toronto, at a time before the existence of Junior A “Travel Hockey” leagues. He went on to earn a scholarship to Michigan State University, where he excelled as a member of their ice hockey team as a speedy winger. Following college, Patrick pursued his dream of playing in the NHL. When that path did not materialize, he took his talents overseas, playing professional hockey in Holland (Netherlands), where he met his first wife Irene.

After Patrick returned to the United States, he enlisted in the Air Force National Guard. After he was honorably discharged, he moved to Menlo Park, California, where he built a career in real estate. He remained devoted to hockey, coaching Stanford University’s Club Hockey team and forming many lasting and meaningful friendships. In later years, Patrick moved to Portland, Maine, where he lived with his longtime girlfriend and enjoyed raising horses.

In addition to hockey, Patrick was a gifted golfer. He even competed several times in the Maine Amateur Championship and maintained a single digit golf handicap. Patrick will be remembered for his gift of gab, big laugh, massive network of friends, athletic excellence, and the deep & lasting bonds he formed with family, friends, teammates, and those he coached.

Patrick was preceded in death by his parents, Kirk and Geraldine Baldwin, his oldest brother, Tim Baldwin, niece Jennifer Birkeland (née Baldwin). He is survived by his siblings Denise Baldwin (née Baldwin); Franny Otto (née Baldwin); and Kirk Baldwin. He is also survived by his beloved nieces and nephews: Doug Baldwin, Colleen Baldwin, Patty Aprea (née Baldwin), Tim Baldwin, Heidi Rose (née Otto), Holly Pendergast (née Otto), Heather Otto, and Terri Tierney (née Baldwin).

A celebration of life and burial in Metro Detroit will be scheduled to happen in the Spring.
